Yep, organised religion just wants to keep the masses under control, so to speak. Since so many people are interested in spiritual development, orthodox religion with the guilt and fear just doesn't work anymore.

How the fuck do you know?
Can you get in people's heads and determine whether or not religion has increased their spirituality? No you can't you fucking dumbasses.
Jesus Christ, you act like you're all knowing. You don't know anything about anyone's spirituality but your own.

Religion is a program thats set for you. Understanding relgions is vert important to spirituality but giving yourself away to a relgion doesnt really give that much room for personal searching or insight because you have a program thats already set for you.
I believe alot of spiritual people are a part of a relgion but generaly religion is a way for people to escape the confusion of self understanding. You cant really be a spiritual person with external programs controling you.

I know many people who have claimed to become more spiritual through religion, so your claim isn't true.
You're just making huge, generalizing, statements, which are completely false.
It's great that you don't like organized religion and all, but a lot of people have become more spiritual, even more enlightened through religion. For you to say that isn't true is just moronic.
How many people are atheist because they don't want to deal with spirituality? On a per capita basis, I bet it will be similar to the number of people who are truly religious because they are "confused".
You also assume religion is all controling which it isn't. The individual still has to craft the supposed bond with God. Being a member of religion only gives you suggestions, it doesn't give you the answer. To say that religion offers no room for personal development and growth of insight is just false. Most people(If I had to estimate, I'd say 75%) who converted to religion as adults, become less confused. They see their goals. I grant you that children and idiots will turn to religion or any institution(government, charity, etc...) when they are confused, but most adult believers are believers of their own free will.
I honestly just think this idea came to your head and you decided to post it, without actually thinking it through.

The Bible is all about spirituality, because, if you read between the lines, the most important thing is to have Faith.
quote:
23Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!"
26He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
27The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!"
quote: 25During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. "It's a ghost," they said, and cried out in fear.
27But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid."
28"Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water."
29"Come," he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!"
31Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?"
Religion is something that you have to put into to get something out of. I don't believe it's nearly as easy is saying "God is good" and getting dunked. After I was baptized, I did a lot of soul searching. Some of it was spent studying things like Buddhism, some of it was spent hating the whole concept of religion. I had my own 40 days and nights in the desert. It's an arduous task to undertake, trying to find God. And to think it was a Bruce Springsteen song that really opened my eyes.

Define 'religion'.
Define 'spirituality'.
