So apparently if god exists, us atheists will go to hell. so our only option for avoiding hell is to believe in god right?

Why do most people not realise that you cannot control your own beliefs. Sure you can say "yes i believe in god" but deep down you dont. So if god does exist then he is pretty much condemning us to hell and we do not have an oppurtunity to get to heaven.

Umm no one can control their beliefs. The whole concept of belief is that you believe in something no matter how preposterous and you stick with that belief. Go on. for the next five minutes i challenge you to radically change your belief. Now during that five minutes ask yourself if deep down, you truly believe in it.

According to Judaism, if you're an atheist, you get exactly what you expect, nothing, oblivion. Unless of course you're a Jew: i.e. a member of the Jewish people by birth or conversion. In that case you could go to hell for up to a year to cleanse your soul to prepare you for the World to Come. God would make you believe and it wouldn't be pleasant.

You decide your own beliefs based on the facts you're presented while you're growing up. If you arbitrarily believe in random shit, then you're standing on pretty shaky ground there, man.

If somebody was to present good, strong proofs that completely disprove your beliefs, you would change your beliefs accordingly, unless you aren't an arrogant bastard. Sure, you might be a bit saddened by the fact that you were wrong, but it'd be wise to take humility and pass on your false convictions.

I'm not speaking for or against Atheism, but you should take responsibility for your beliefs, theological and otherwise. They're your convictions because you chose them.

but we alone do not have the power to change our beliefs so surely if we go to hell because of that then god is bein a twat.

Exactly. People can change their own beliefs therefore they have conscious control over them.

why cant god just show himself to all of us. then everyone would believe and those who didnt would have to be pretty freakin stupid not to. the only reason i can think of for this is that he enjoys this little game of sending people to hell and if we all believed satan would be lonely. he seems pretty malicious to me.

If you're an Atheist, shouldn't you like... not believe in Hell? Is there even a word for someone who doesn't know what he or she believes in?
