well not my house really, i was visting some family out in the country. Anyways, I was alone at the house and i hear a knockin at the door, so i went around front, and i saw the guy out there in his suit, and im thinking "well this guy must be trying to sell me somthing" and about 3 seconds into meeting him i figure out he's going to talk religion with me.
I have an open mind so i let the guy talk, and he's about my age, I guess a little older, maybe 25. I told him I'm a buddhist, and he starts asking me about that.... we get into talking so i invited him to sit on the porch with me, and we talked for like a good half hour or so, mainly about his religous stuff, but it was interesting things, the guy knew his religions.
anyways he didnt seem like he was wacked out like most of the christians i meet, and I actually ENJOYED talking to him about religion (that is a first, as far as christians go). He offered me one of his little books, and told me to check it out and see if it makes sense to me and what he was saying (mostly) made sense as far as beliving in a religion goes
So why do these guys have such a bad rep? It didnt even seem like the guy was trying to convert me. Seemed like we where just talking religion, just like I'd talk politics with one of my republicrat buddies.

well i'm glad you enjoyed his visit cos as you took a book he will be coming back to see if you read it/how you got on with it.
that's standard practice with them. (i've still got their training manual somewhere).

its because most people are stubborn with religion. personally, i would love to answer their knock with no clothes on. i wonder if he would stay. oh, and waking a person up to discuss religion isnt always favored.

as far as i know, Joho's below the rank of pioneer are still forbidden to speak to me http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif)
guess who knows their history better than they do:P
in my younger, more obnoxious days. i had all the 100 year old WT books on a shelf which could be seen from the front door...

How did you manage to become a forbiden person?

because the elder and pioneer they sent to convince me of the error of my sinful, heretical ways both left having a crisis of faith. something i admit these days i'm not proud of http://www.totse.com/bbs/frown.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/frown.gif)
but if you want to shut a joho upon the doorstep then all you have to say when they turn up is :" sorry but i'm an apostate"

They have a bad rep because half the people that come knocking at peoples doors are nutcases, seriously once i had a missionary try to play accordian to me on my doorstep.

Wow...that doesn't seem normal. An accordian? I like your screen name, by the way.
Jehovahs witnesses used to come to my house until i put this up http://www.ebaumsworld.com/jknocker.html

My friend at school is a j.w, and i thought that they were trying to convert everyone but he said they were there to simply encourage use of the bible (along with bible studies)
that goes along with jack's comment, the first one, they go back to share biblical knowledge. some of them dont know other religons but ALL of them know just abotu everything in the bible. EVERYTHING!
I was in a band with a Jehovah's Witness singer/guitarist and a Catholic drummer.
.. It was quite a clash.
Anyway, my experience with JWs has been nothing but positive. They've all been hospitable and friendly even with though I don't believe.
