View Full Version : People who are offended when you say "Jesus Christ"

I was sitting in class the other day talking to my friend. I don't remember what we were talking about, but I remember saying, "Jesus Christ, that sucks!". Immediately this fat whore came up to me and demanded that I "not take the Lord's name in vain!". I politely told her that we were having a private conversation, so if she didn't like what we were saying, she was free to move to the other side of the room and not listen to our conversation. She must have not heard me, because she said that I was, infact, "racist against my religion", (which proves how stupid she really is). At this point she was pissing me off so I told her to fuck off. She told me that I was not going to the Rapture and that I would go to hell instead.

Now, I'm not trying to slander anyone's religion, but really, why are people so offended when you say "Jesus Christ"? People have bitched at me for saying it before, I'm just wondering if anyone else has had something similar happen to them.

It's against one of them commandment thingies, that says don't take the lord's name in vain. Which means using the lords name in a bad way. It's why whenever someone says "God damn" on TV they still bleep the "god" part.

Ah, the rapture, a mythical threat. You could tell her that using the rapture as an insult could be skirting on "lord's name in vain" (since being raptured is when you are picked as one of God's super chosen.) Or you could tell her to go fuck Mary.

Almost everyone who believes in the rapture believes they will be raptured, the arrogance is highlarious.

Unfortunately, we are held accountable if we dont denouce such. We are just as guilty as the person saying it if we let it slide.

You should be more considerate (or tolerant, whichever you prefer) of other religions and not say such anyway. Whats this fad nowadays? "Thou shalt not offend thy brother?" or something.

Most Christians don't even know what "taking the Lord's name in vain" means. Ignore them. It's actually talking about God's secret name which was used in ancient times to invoke the powers from above. But... as I should know, the Bible gets reinterpreted over time.

Some Jews today think that because of that commandment you can't even say "God" or if you type it out, you have to replace the 'o' with a hyphen.

The second commandment is also interesting in its reinterpretations. It goes:

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. (Exodus 20:4-6)

Originally, this just meant don't make idols of gods and don't worship them. This included the Jewish god, Yahweh. One time they tried to make a gold calf idol of Yahweh, and he got really pissed and Moses made them grind down the idol and drink the gold dust. Later Jewish interpretation says it means you can't make statues of ANYTHING (see edit). And so when the Romans came along and put up statues of Caesar (or whoever the hell it was) the Jews got really pissy about it. Protestant Christians reinterpret the passage in a completely liberal fashion, saying that it means that you can't have anything more important than God in your life. But the analogy breaks down when you consider the commandment talks about *making* the idols, and not just choosing to "worship" them.

edit: the original context was that of making idols of gods, as almost all the idols of gods were statues of some natural object or people. Back then statues weren't made for artistic purposes. So when Jews applied it to artistic statues, they took it out of its original context. That is why I consider it to be reinterpretation.

edit2: okay, so now that I think of it, they did have statues for artistic purposes back then. But that's still not what the commandment was originally about, as you can see by the context of the entire passage. They also had "graven images" on the ark of the covenant (two cherebum) so that should also be a hint as to what the commandment meant.

I don't like when people go out of their way to correct you. If they believe that it's wrong to say God or Jesus Christ in that sort of situation, that's fine. But when they interrupt somebody else's conversation to tell them not to say things like that, that really makes me angry.

Ha, Sounds like she is nosy and wanted some attention, Besides did she really say "racist against my religion"? That really does sound stupid, racist has nothing to do with religion, it has to do with skin color. Besides I say screaming Jesus Christ isnt bad, its just better then saying holy shit, or what the fuck, If you were in my church I would rather you say Christ's name any day, besides does she even know anything about him? She probably was yelled at by her parents for saying it now she had to jump your case.

I had a friend correct me once, and to be honest, I almost walked home right there and told him to fuck off. Some people don't know where to draw the fucking line.

If you're going to limit yourself to a set of stupid rules, fine. If you try to limit me though, then you're already overstepping that line, and nobody in the goddamn universe should have the right to do that.

Christians need to learn people will keep their mouths shut out of dignity and respect. You will lose that respect when you try to force them to keep it shut if they "slip". Maybe you'll go to heaven in the future, but the person will see your blind hopes and dreams written all over your face, and just pity you for being so bent on "trying to do the right thing". Of course, you'd already be in a state too ignorant to care.

Which is something alot of people, or scientist have already found. And are using everyday.

Evidently they do not. I here is more often then not. And its not like its right for Christians to say "Hey! Dont say that word!". Its only Christian to come off as just trying to retain respect. Not assholes.

They arent being very Christian themselves. We respect everyone and their beliefs, just as long as they arent being pricks about it. Preachers dont preach the word anymore. Their congregations suffer because of it.

So yes, alot of Christians are idiots.

its ppl like described above getting all touchy about saying harmless workds like god or jesus christ that makes all of us easy targets.

christians dont have to like it, but saying anything is pointless because quite frankly, no one respects anything anymore.

Saying anything might be pointless to nonbelievers, but like ive been saying, its a sin on our part if we dont stick up for Jesus' name.

I really did not quote my self again, it looks like the second post finished to my first reply to the mans thread. About all of the gods using the same thing to acheive thier mental state.
