Someone on this forum said that the purpose of life is to reproduce. Why is that our purpose?

The purpous of feeling horny is to reproduce, but not life itself.

Because the survival of our species should be at the top of our to-do list, don't ya think? However, with the world as over populated as it is this doesn't seem practical, hence we are living in a sort of void...however if you are a theist you probably think differently to me...

The purpous of reproduction is for life to continue, the purpous of life is something more.

A good question would be, why do we want life to survive in the first place?

Logically, if one accepts evolution, any organism with the primary purpose of procreation is going to do better than one without, thus over time all successful lifeforms would have such primary instincts.

Because otherwise we would die, and things that wanted to live would steal all our precious, precious resources.

I know I'm gonna die, so why do I care if the human race survives? Why does anyone? Including animals plants etc?

Maybe because life is a purpose unto itself...all living things reproduce in one way or another...the continuation of life...does it really need any reason for it? Do the birds ponder their purposefulness of living? Other animals? I dunno? They might, or they might just enjoy what they have and not ponder it all. Wouldn't that be a nice way to be sometimes.

We all can find things in life that become purposeful though.

The purpose of life it whatever you feel like dedicating your life to.

"Purpose" implies that there is a set goal that life strives to achieve. Since life has been constantly upgrading itself via evolution, then I'd say the purpose was to reproduce.

Because if we didn't have the desire to procreate and for self-preservation, our species would die. It just doesn't make evolutionary sense to not have those instincts. I'm not sure how to explain it better than that.

I know this. What I'm saying is why do we want to survive as a species at all?

IE: It's not the individual that wants its species to survive, but the species itself. Almost as if a species is a complete organism unto itself.

Either way it's still the wrong way around. IE: The purpous of life isn't to reproduce, but the purpous of reproduction is for life to continue.

Ah, I see what you're getting at. Best answer I have: there is no purpose to life. And I'm cool with being a cosmic accident.
