If you have not heard yet a bunch of women got ordained as Catholic Priests and Deacons in a boat somewhere off the Canadian coast. They are going to get excomunicated in the next few days unless the Pope Benadict feels like changing the rules. He excomunicated the last women that tried this while he was still a Cardinal so it would look bad on his part.
The way I understand it if you get excomunicated you can't recieve communion and the priests won't here your confessions. And those things are nessesary at least once a year (before Easter or something) if you want to go to Heaven. So basicly the women are comiting spiritual suicide in the eyes of established dogma to make a statement.
In my opinion this is a very brave thing. It is one thing to sacrafice your physical existance for something that you think is right, most religions agree that God has no problem with this and even rewards people for it. Since the Catholic Church says they can make rules for God doing this is betting your imortal soul that God will take pitty on you even after you have rejected him because he has sympathy for your cause.
