If you have not heard yet a bunch of women got ordained as Catholic Priests and Deacons in a boat somewhere off the Canadian coast. They are going to get excomunicated in the next few days unless the Pope Benadict feels like changing the rules. He excomunicated the last women that tried this while he was still a Cardinal so it would look bad on his part.

The way I understand it if you get excomunicated you can't recieve communion and the priests won't here your confessions. And those things are nessesary at least once a year (before Easter or something) if you want to go to Heaven. So basicly the women are comiting spiritual suicide in the eyes of established dogma to make a statement.

In my opinion this is a very brave thing. It is one thing to sacrafice your physical existance for something that you think is right, most religions agree that God has no problem with this and even rewards people for it. Since the Catholic Church says they can make rules for God doing this is betting your imortal soul that God will take pitty on you even after you have rejected him because he has sympathy for your cause.

Used to be a sin to eat meat on Friday--imagine the chagrin of Catholics who are damned for eternity because they forgot what day of the fucking week it was.

There is no real difference between what those women are doing, and what every theist in the world is doing: they consciously betting their souls by choosing what religion or faith they follow.

They, I assume, are confident that if the Christian god exists, that he would not have any problem with a female ordained priest. To do this, they'd have to believe a Christian god exits in the first place, a bet in and of itself.

actually, the catholics are prohibited from eating land dwelling animals on that day, as i recall.

thats why they earned the slandered name 'mackeral snappers' because fish were the only thing they could eat.

im pretty sure.

as bill hicks said:

"women priests. great, great. now there's priests of both sexes I don't listen to. ha, fuck, I don't care. have a hermaphrodite one. i don't fucking care. have one with three dicks and eight titties, you know, have one with gills and a trunk. now that would be cool."

Indeed. But they are basically betting on a no-win situation. The Bible doesnt allow for any women to be ordained.

Says you who believe in a literal interpretation... They don't believe in a literal interpretation apparently, so you're "betting on a no-win situation" as much as they are.
