There is a small society of people living someplace isolated. They live poorly and survive with much toil. They have no concept of murder. One day a man comes to them with power, wealth and knowledge. He is a good man who loves them and distributes his belongings to them. The people love him back and this love is transfered to his chosen ones as well. Life in the small society now changes. The people have wealth and knowledge to taste Eternal Life. Their rich friend leaves, having appointed his chosen ones to continue his work. But before he leaves, he gives to one of them a terrible prophecy. He tells them that a man will come and his actions will be the cause of murder between them and a lot of them will wish they'd never been born.

When the prophecy became known the small society paralyzed with fear. They realize that they may be rich but they are in danger. In danger of a stranger who will trick them and torture them. It was foretold by their dear friend whose knowledge is unquestionable. The society starts then to organize its defenses against external threats. Their hospitality dissapears. The chosen ones are selected and they receive power to guide the defenses. But the power is sweet and the chosen ones do not want to let it go ever. They kill anyone challenges them and benefit those who support them. The salvation of their society is excuse for everything. Soon, the society learns to live with murder, in torture.

The existence of the prophecy was the cause for its fullfilment. The good man never lied and only benefited the people with wealth and knowledge.

edit: to avoid plagiarism accusations, though I doubt anyone knows the writer, the above is from "Aquarius" of Panagiotis Traianou.
