View Full Version : Arrogance of Religon

Throughout history, there must of been thousands of religons and they all claim to be the true one. I think this is purely arrogant because who is to say that one religon is better then another.

People have always had intolerance of relgions other then their own.

I've said this many a time. In my eyes there is no difference from believing in Zeus or the Judeo-Christian god.

I agree. It's great when people practice their religon, however, many relgious people, particularly christians, have zero tolerance for other religons. They believe that theirs is the only TRUE one and that everyone else is goin Hell.

Why do you think Christianity has become so popular among the world today? It is neither the oldest nor does it have the most proof.

All religions (more or less) were created to control the masses, and were taught to suit the capacities of different people.

Memes, I think Christianity and the idea that there is an all-loving father-figure watching over us and when we die we go to a magical utopia is a lot more satisfying than tree spirits or stories about gods that suffer from such human attributes as ego or jealousy.

That doesn't mean they don't tolerate other religions though.

What religion has the most proof then?

This guy's right.

Meme 1: Assimilation

Christianity is the true religion, everything else is incorrect. God's word is the truth, thus, Bible is infallible.

Meme 2: Pain

By following another religion, heresy, you go to hell. Hell equates to pain. Eternal hell is ultimate pain. This usually stops people from thinking/questioning the doctrine.

Meme 3: Infection

Many people don't know aout the word of God, so you must spread this religion for people's salvation.

All three memes I have seen Christians (I once went to church) doing. They even said a friend of mine - who was Jewish - should convert or else his soul is damned. What utter bullshit.

Especially when the gods are human attributes such as love, war, indulgence, etc and suffer from their fallings

The main thing i find hateful about religions, is that most, if not all, hold the belief that if you don't believe in whatever fictitious deity they have concocted, then you are somehow evil, or worse off than them, and need saving, they feel the need to convert people to their religion because "god" has told them to. It also pisses me off that religious nuts seem to ASSUME that because you aren't religious, you are doing something wrong and are morally defective and in someway evil for questioning the mighty god.

Religious people scare me, they really need a god to tell them not to kill other people?

Its a childish idea, people need to grow out of their fear of non existance and get the fuck over it, and more to the point, stop using "religion" as a get out of jail free card to be racist (nearly all religions have people who do this), homophobic (nearly all religions do this, bearing in mind that LEVITICUS, the part of the bible that says this also bans shellfish, having a threeway with your mother in law and your wife, eating pork, insulting your parents also warrants a death penalty)and generally a twat motivated by fear and self interest.

Believing in "a religion" doesn't give you a right to break the law.

Anyone who thinks religion is positive needs a swift kick to the throat.

Thousands upon thousands of people have died in witchhunts (being burnt alive, not nice), crusades (holy war), and plenty of other attrociaties attributed to religion.

I should not have to respect anyones "right" to believe in a ficticious deity if that means they're "right" makes changes in the law that are immoral and illegal.

Its funny, christian twats are always complaining about lack of religion in schools, but they're always trying to ram THEIR relgion down are throats, not hinduism or islam. Just check them putting "intelligent design" theory into schools in america, which basically says, "everything in the world is to complicated to not have been created by god" which pretty much goes against the whole idea of science.

Great now im all angry.

Most Christians don't look down on other religions!

And why is everyone always lumping all Christians into one big catagory. The one thing all Christians have in common is the belief that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. There are many different doctrines and offshoots. Bapitists,Lutherans,Catholics,7th Day Adventists...they all have very different views in many aspects.

Judaism teaches that those of other faiths have an easier chance of being good people as they have less rules to follow, the idea being that those who don't know aren't held responsible for it.

Religion is by far the most widespread memecomplex ever.

The reason why: The core basis of most any religion is to "spread the word". That is the only requirement a meme has, is to be imitated, copied, propagated.

It's an acceptable mind virus to most people because it is so interwoven with their own hardwired emotional responses.

The religious memes also have an advantage over other competing memes due to the fact that it's running in some sort of blind hopsack race with our genes, complimenting each other and thus strengthening the virus.

Or so they are theorizing in this breakthrough piece by molecular biologist Dean Hamer: The God Gene
