Im asking, my girlfriends mom is HARDCORE religous. She was telling me stuff that God did for her, and it seemed incredible. I wanted to know what God has done for people here.

Well...I suppose...God [whatever God may be] set the stage for life everlasting...

Whether that means life forever as in 'heaven' or life that goes on forever thru preset reproductive processes...I don't know for sure.

Life is incredible...and people often attribute the ordinary and the extraordinary to God...

I think it can give people strength and hope which, generally is a good thing.

God has given us the gift of life.....the greatest gift of all. Also his only begotten son gave his life for us so we wouldnt be damned for all eternity or something like that. Generally thats the response that I hear from preachers and ministers in response to questions about what god has done for us.

In high school, during times of desperation, I would pray to god to help me pass a class. I never failed but then that might be because of my own hard work rather than god's work. Looking back it seems sorta silly of me to bargain over something so trivial with a supreme being.

Looking back even farther though I remember praying to god and asking him to protect me from the zombies that I was positive were going to come soon (I was eight years old and scared shitless of zombies). The Earth hasnt been overrun by zombies yet so I guess you can thank god for that.

If God did things for us then there would be no point in living. There would be no way to feel satisfaction in yourself. People achieve things through their own means. People who say God helped them pass a class or get themselves a high paying job are just sellingn themselves short. Whilst too much pride is a bad thing, to put your trust in a supernatural being to help you through situations is making you weaker as a person.

I am me. What I achieve/don't achieve is through my own means.

Your post answers itself.

Nope. Please understand what I am saying and don't misquote me. These people think that some sort of God has helped them? They achieved everything themselves. No supernatural being helped them.

^^^God helps those who help themselves...

I do think that we are given all we need...

Sometimes...it's just a matter of sorting it all out...

You think so? I'd find life so mundane if I believed that. Takes away any sort of challenge in my opinion. I mean, no offence of course, everyone must be entitled to their beliefs. But I don't know...

The sorting it out just might be the challenge...

I'm rarely offended about things of this nature.

I respect your mindset...I don't think it's a bad one...just not the same as my own.

For openers--

life; free will; a fairly good brain; and a really neat planet to live on.

Then there's kittens, rainbows, maggots, sucking chest wounds, ebola, all the shit that keeps life from being boring.

I posted where your outlook is that God does things for people, and then you "quote" them as saying that God HELPED them. There is a huge difference between the two.

And how can you be so certain that a supernatural being does not help people? Just me being here has an effect on you whether we make contact or not. Likewise his presecence anywhere (assuming either chaos/physics applies to all dimensions, or God resides in this dimension), will have some effect on you.

Argon, how can you be so certain that invisible pink elephants don't help people?
