I'm 15 and I smoke weed on frequent occasion. I've been caught once before about a year back, and quit for about 7 months. I just finished having a talk with my mom about some of my friends who smoke weed, etc. Now you see, I believe in weed. I think it's completely ok (considering use in moderation). I realize its negative side effects; I don't wish to talk to you about those.

Earlier today in the conversation, my mom asked me, "Do you think that what you were doing with [friend's name] was to your best interest?" (referring to smoking weed with him). I replied with "somewhere in the middle." (not wanting to get into that discussion just yet.

I consider myself a Christian, maybe not the best, or 'model' Christian, but I believe in God and I want to grow spiritually. But, I also want to smoke weed.

My question is, is it possible for the two to co-exist, meaning, without finding loopholes around the fact, can I smoke weed and be an acceptable Christian in God's eyes?

Nothing in the Bible forbids cannabis use.

I am not a Christian expert, but I think that all you need is to believe in Jesus, and have good morals towards everyone around you. Everything else is just for politics. I am not Christian, but I do read Jesus's words and thats how I see them. As long as your not stealing for weed, hurting others, being irresponsible, whats the problem?

Last time this came up someone said that God does not like it when you break the law.

No where in that god forsaken book of fairy tales does is say smoking pot is bad.....

I seriously doubt they even knew what the hell it was when it was written. What the hell did they do rub two sticks together and light a bowl?... right...

The bible says nothing about smoking marijuana. It says you have to 'respect the law of the land'. The bible says a lot of things.

Jesus broke the law.

In fact most revolutionairy leaders who bettered the world had to break the law. Rosa Parks broke the law.

Like I said, as long as your actions have an honest motive to not harm others, you are fine. Most laws are based on that principle anyway.

If your parents drink alcohol, make sure to fire that question right back at them when one of them is pounding back a beer. http://www.totse.com/bbs/wink.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/wink.gif)

Marijuana is just all round more healthy than alcohol, which is fine if used in moderation. Thats's how I see it, anyway.

The real question is, if it said it was bad, would you still do it anyway?

I think that's all god cares about.

Look, man...I am a Christian, and I smoke weed. There are NO VERSES that either support, or rebuke the use of marijuana specifically in the Bible.

Two things to consider:

1. God tells us to follow the laws of the land. In America, smoking marijuana is against the law. If you break the law and end up in jail, this will reflect badly on you, and thus Christianity, and ultimately God. If you are cool with that, then that's on you.

2. Drugs alter your mind. We are to take care of our "temple" according to the Bible.

I smoke it. It's wrong. If I get caught, I will pay the consequences, and I will feel really bad about the kind of representation I am giving to the world of what a Christian should be...actually, I feel bad about it now. The punishment is not what makes it bad, it's the act itself.

Do I think it should be legalised ? Oh, yes. Do I think God has anything against marijuana ? No.

Besides all this, there are much bigger hills to die on in your Christian walk...I wouldn't sweat the small stuff.

Uhhh...kati, that was an extremely narrowminded opinion, coming from you.

Book of fairy tales ? That tells me you haven't read it. Methinks you and I need to have a loooong chat, if you are ever up to it.

There were other mind altering substances back in the day, so any and all scripture denouncing mind altering substances would logically include marijuana.

See ya on the flipside, Katidid.

ORIGINAL POSTER: By the way, if you are saved, no amount of smoking weed will send you to hell, buddy. Salvation through grace simply doesn't work like that.

There is no renigging in the Kingdom of heaven.

It doesn't say anything in the bible about any drugs, but it does say that you can't deform your body. So any drug that doesn't deform your body is okay. Marijuana or Cannibis doesn't do anything to your body so, logically, it's okay. But Meth, on the other hand, causes you to burn, literally, and to scratch yourself like crazy, so that, deforms your body, and thus, is against the bible.

Then God said,"I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours ...Genesis 1:29-31)

Very good point. God commands us to obey the laws of man unless they contradict His own commands.

Also its the temple of the holy ghost thing.

Jesus drank wine. He even made some at a wedding when they ran out. Wine will get u drunk if u drink enough of it. Maybe it's a moderation thing. Too much of anything is bad for u. God doesn't like to compete with anything or anyone(1st Commanment), people sometimes lose focus, sometimes almost worshipping drugs. For example it would becomes their whole focus in lfe...and just hit rock bottom.

Anyone have anything to add.

The Greek word we translate for "wine" can mean:

1: Literally wine: fermented grape juice

2: Unfermented grape juice (Welches anyone?)

3: Grape jelly (ill take blackberry instead, please)

Since it is against Jesus' teachings to consume alcohol, one must deduce that Jesus made grape jiuce, which the writers wrote down the generic term for grapde food products, which we translate into the more specific term for an alcoholoic beverage.

Mr. Tree you my friend are my idle. Do not let goverment laws and modern day crapola form your spiritual life. Your religion should have jack shit to do with the goverment and yadda yadda yadda. i am christian but i fear that the church and the pope are influenced too much by the goverment. unfortunately religion has turned into some political shindig where the pope and the church are pressured into following the rules so they can prech the word of god.
