pretty self-explanatory

i've been reading the bible for english, and it seems like, back then, God talked to people fairly often, and made plagues, and was fairly active in the creation of Israel and stuff (if you take the bible literally), but why doesn't God interact with people any more? is there a biblical reason? or what do christian leaders say about this?

good point, i always just assumed that back then, his people were a nation. Now their everywhere. god has a reason for doing everything - maybe the ppl today would get to freaked if that happen.

What makes you think he doesn't?

For all we know, he could be talking to more people now than ever before. Do you think the sane among them would go public in our society with such a claim?

They'd be ostracized as a fucking lunatic.

Holy shit!

Apparently, darth vector's right.

Below is a link to a Christian forum, that tries to examine this phenomena. http://tinyurl.com/cr8cb

Unfortunately, this thread is now closed, as it has successfully offended some Christians.

Why would one think that God talks to anyone then? Really, if God has anything to say don't you think we all should hear it? What's the secrecy for?

Really, think about it. If someone came out saying that God talked to them and told them to tell the world something, what would the reaction be?

I think that, if God IS talking to people, they're keeping quiet just so they don't get committed or publicly ruined.

There was someone who spoke at my church who said God talked to him. "Do not take my name in vain." I think it was a World War II story or something.

i can see where you're coming from, but i agree with elfstone, if He had something important to say, couldn't He just as easily tell all of us? or even somebody respected in a religious community, who might be taken seriously?

You're assuming God is saying something important to the guy. Maybe it's something that the world doesn't need to know, only the person being talked to. For example:

[booming voice from above]

Hey Phil, your fly is down, nigga.

[/booming voice from above]

Purely hypothetical, of course.

An author called Neale Donald Walsch claims that he talks with God in the form of on-paper conversations. If you're looking for some fascinating reading, pick up his books "Conversations With God" (books 1, 2 and 3) and if you feel like it "Friendship with God" (which I'm currently reading). From what I've heard all the books he's released after that haven't contained anything new, but hey it's your money.

Right, THAT'S why the hurricane hit and affected the people who had the least to do with our country's political decisions.

Some people will point to the 7 Days war, and say that was a miracle.

In theory, G-d talks to people all the time. It just tends to be through conscience now. G-d guides, he doesnt force.

This is going by Judaism, Christianity is more along the lines of 'G-d is going to allow everything to go to shit, and then Jesus will come back and fix it.' Hence no more prophets. Islam states definatly that Muhammed was the last prophet, and therefor G-d is not talking anymore

You are as dull witted as Star Wars Fan. I knew someone would post this as soon as I began this thread.

The truth is that Gods reign can be divided into two eons, the old eon, and the new. In the old, god was a god of miracles, carving out a state of Israel for his chosen ppl. In this eon, god was active in the world, choosing those purest of heart from among the people. When the time was right, God the Father gave rise to his only son(anything else is heresy), the Lord Jesus Christ, may we forever adore him. In this era, mankind has begun his REPENTANCE for the sins of his 4/fathers. This era, God has assumed a mainly passive role, as a supporter of the righteous man, whos path is stricken with the unrighteous. If you believe, you can channel Gods will, and heal the sick and cast out demons and walk tru fire. For the true believer, who actually believes, and lives in accordance with the word of LAMB OF GOD, OUR LORD JEZUS CHRIST, NEED FEAR NO EVIL, FOR THE LORD SHALL BE HIS SHEPHERD, AND LEAD HIM INTO ETERNAL JOY.

So the reason God doesn't talk is because, since the death of his son, his flesh and blood, on the cross, and with him the sacrifice of the final victim, God has assumed a more laid back role in the world.
