"If we don't believe in freedom of expression for

people we despise, we don't believe in it at all."

The nation was aghast last October 10th when the ADL'S national executive board member, Lynne Abraham, D.A. of Philadelphia, arrested 11 Christians as hate criminals. Her charge: Their preaching was "biased" against homosexuals. They were "hate criminals" because they used an "instrument of crime" (a megaphone) to express "hate speech," (Bible verses) against homosexuals.

HA HA Your Bible is hate speech!

This is retarded. The Bible clearly states the homosexuality is wrong so its obviously biased against them. As long as the protestors were peacibly assembling and were not breaking any noise ordinances, this is outrageous.

"The State Department's 40-page Report on Global Anti-Semitism cites a recent example of "anti-Semitism" in Poland. "...the pastor of St. Brigid Church in Gdansk told parishioners during services that Jews killed Jesus and the prophets." (p.22) What's wrong with that? According to Jewish leadership: plenty. Jewish leaders say it was this millennia-old accusation that ultimately led to the Holocaust: to millions of Jewish "Christ killers" being herded into the prison camps and gas chambers of Auschwitz, Dachau, etc. "You can't get any more anti-Semitic than that!" they protest."

Owned.

But seriously, those homos need to quit bitching.

What happened to freedom of speech? As long as they're not inciting violence, step the fuck off.

I dunno, there are more than a few bible passages that people might have a right to find offensive. I think it's in Leviticus that something is said about how gays should be killed. If somebody got in my face with a megaphone and used their holy book to belittle my existence I'd be pretty pissed off.

As a member of the gay community myself and a supported of all civil rights, I still don't see much harm in someone saying anti-gay bible scriptures over a bullhorn in public... May be I'm reading this wrong? I mean, I don't agree with it, but as long as no one is getting physically hurt I can't see how this would be made illegal. Of course, if their shouting stupid things like "Faggot!" and shit and there's children running about, that's a different story. But, if they're just reciting bible scriptures?

Eh... I think I'm missing something.

Tough call. This is the information age. Either we prosecute them after the damage is already done or we use hate crime laws.

Consider this hypthetical situation:

If the Pope were to one day command all his followers to kill homosexuals, how many people do you think would die?

Are anti-hate-speech campaigns enough to prevent people from inciting violence?

Yes, the bible says homosexuality is wrong.

Its one of the 613 mitzvot(commandments) derrived from the bible.

However, commiting a homosexual act is on par with:

Eating Pork

Eating Shellfish

Shaving your beard with a razor

Walking more than 4 cubits without a head covering

Tattooing the skin

Among other things.

So in other words, Christians are hypcritical. I dont understand why the can take some parts of the Tanakh and ignore others how they please.

That being said. I support gay rights. And Im religious. Not everyone should be, or could be Jewish. Following a religion, or the morals implied, should not be forced.(Although common sense morals, such as not murdering and rapeing are not really religious. Considering they are flat morals across world society.)

Your not missing a thing. You happen to be a level headed individual.

The mind of a sane person cannot comprehend insanity.

Lost, I agree with you, some of this "hate speech" stuff could easily cross the line to unconstitutional.

Although the article left out a lot of details. The group is lead by someone who is known to go to gay events and harass supports with bullhorn and bible. They went to such an event sponsored in part by the city to get the gay people to repent. A pro-gay group formed around them trying to block their signs and the police stepped in because of the potentially volitile situation. Since the event wasn't theirs the "repent" group was asked to leave. When they refused they were arrested. The city did charge them with a hate crime but there are other charges as well.
