whats the deal with Halloween? in Europe and Mexico they tradtionally have carnivals marking the memory of the dead n' shit or something.

I read about this time being the point in time (within a year) that the point between the spiritual world and realitly (or the world around us) is at its 'frail'ist.

El Día de los Muertos is a celebration to honour the lives of the deceased. It is basically a syncretism of the traditional Roman Catholic holidays of All Saints Day and All Souls Day and Aztec festivals dedicated to the goddess Mictecacihuatl.

Edit: Oh, and Hallowe'en is the updated and co-opted version of the Celtic festival of Samhain (short of using IPA transcription, the easiest way to describe the pronunciation is "sow-en," with a stress on the first syllable). Samhain night was the symbolic transitionary phase between summer and autumn, and was supposedly the night when the worlds of the living and the fey were closest.
