In christianity, more specifically, Catholocism, does God consider doing drugs a sin?

As far as I know, it's considered sorcery. All mind-altering drugs were a form of sorcery.
hmm interesting . But jesus did drink wine I also thing he rocked the ganj .
What is truely interesting is that there is a theory in which various parts of the Bible were written under the influence of drugs. For example: it has been postulated that Moses transcribed the Tanak under the influence of blue lotus, a plant common in the Egyptian and lower Mid East reagons that Moses traveled to. In addition, there's a theory that Revelations was written by John while under then influence of a halucinogen. You see, during the early first century AD on the island of Patmos, where Revelation was written, there was an outbreak of ergotism in the granery of the isle. There as also been historical evidence based on the ruins that the granery was coated with a chemical that could potentially have changed the ergoline in the ergot to LSA, a (weaker) analog of LSD, but nonetheless halucinogenic. So whether or not it's a sin, drugs have been used both in the Bible (Jesus smoking marijuana, drinking wine, etc.) and in the writing of the Bible.

There is no wording in the bible that says "Thou shalt not smoke pot" if that is what you are looking for.
It's not the act of doing drugs that is the problem..it is what occurs during the trancended state of spiritual complacency. It opens your heart and mind to a great deal of harmful things.
You may not highly regard your serenity, contentment, peace of mind, state of mind or joy but, those are the things that eventually are torn down during prolonged drug abuse.
This is due in part by devulging in debauchery or other sinful acts while under the influence of said drugs. There is nothing that does more to seperate man from God then living in the dillusions of being stoned.
I've seen it a hundred times where strong users of drugs begin to testify that they are manic depressive and are usually on some pschyo drug of some kind to offset the effects of this darkened spirit.
I don't mean to be a buzz kill but that is road you don't want to go down.

The bible does talk about Jesus drinking wine but Jesus smoking marijuana is not commonly taught within the church. Do you have some resources or scipture that you could provide to substantiate those claims?

I'll grant you the fact that it is disputable, however there are a few sites that I have found: http://tinyurl.com/eyy6x http://tinyurl.com/9fbbr
This, in addition to the fact that marijuana was redily avilable to that part of the world and was commonly smoked during that period of time, may suggest that Jesus smoked marijuana.
Edit: These are just a few, I'm sure that other people have much more information on this then I do.

I've only ever heard that as a joke based on what a hippy Jesus was. But he does have those 18 unaccounted years...

They did use hallucinogens in the bible, at least once.
Jesus' annointing oil was cannabis, He probably ate and smoked it or gave it to others as some type of initiation, he wouldn't use it for any other reasons.
I'm pretty sure I've seen a site which had all the references to Him eating some mushrooms and going out to the desert. Something like that, I can't remember.
This is all very hard for me to believe, being that the majority of people posting doubt Jesus existed at all.... Now, we know with some veracity that Jesus ate shrooms and anointed people with marijuana oil? Please send me a link. Thanks.

Two books that I read a while ago: "Drugs of the Bible" by Berniece Berry Brown (published by University of Texas) and "Sex, Drugs, Violence, and the Bible" by Chris Bennett and Neil McQueen. Quite interesting books.

I know.... But, what makes you think that marijuana oil is used? There are alot of oils out there. Olive, peanut, castor, etc..

Olive oil was from Greece and very expensive in the Mid East at that time. Peanuts were from the New World and Northen Europe, and was thus very very rare. Marijuana oil was readily available, abundant, and inexpensive.

Um, olive oil is all throughout the Bible because they had fields and fields of olive trees. Where are you getting your information? As far as peanuts go, yes, i know. The point I was making is that there are many different types. To assume that is was from hash isn't based on anything of merit. If you say that it is, then please provide something credible. Even if Jesus did use marijuana oil, it would be inconsequential. I'm just curious to know why it is you think that.

There is some belief that
"manna" was cubensis (shrooms)
and the description seems to fit.
Also, the "holy annointing oil"
moses made would supposedly
make you trip.

That was quite possibly the most uninformative website I've ever seen. Consequently, it was based on absolutely nothing of any merit. It amazes me what people believe and what they dismiss.

If the drugs are illegal, then it's a sin. If they're legal and you only use them, then it's ok. However, if you abuse even legal drugs, then it's a sin.
It isn't a sin if they're legal and you're not abusing them.

Anything in place of God is a sin. That would include drugs or fudge brownies, if it begins to consume your life. But yes, according to the Word, we are supposed to follow the law of the land, so long as it does not directly defy His ordinances.

That is a very intersting point. This response is probably a topic for a seperate thread but, I've tried to figure this out and still haven't got it yet.
I understand that Romans 13 tells us how it would be to our benefit to obey the laws of the .gov and how all authority is handed down by God but what happens when the .gov begins to say that there is no God and anybody who mentions God is guilty of hate speech? What do we do then? I do not see where it is possible to submit to that .gov without renouncing God.

You listen to the government until they start to contradict the word of God. That's what most people think anyways.
