Or do religious nuts just SOUND stupid?

I favor the latter.

Nah, atheists are just more realistic.

You don't know how many moronic atheists I've met. "god is dum lol! fuk my mom 4 makin me go 2 church"

Then again I've met some pretty ignorant theists...

What Paradise said. There are more theists and so more to sounds stupid, but the percentage is probably the same.

Also, there are more theists who are vocal that they are theists and morons. Not as many moron atheists talk about their beliefs in their dumbass rantings.

For example, I've known some moron conspiracy theory nuts that were atheist, but you wouldn't be able to tell listening to their rant. Where as equally stupid theist conspiracy theory nuts often add "The end times are near" or "the liberal left is trying to destroy christianity" to their rants, allowing you to identify their religion.

Does not all nuts (except edible ones, perhaps) sound stupid?

Some reasons for the (seeming) difference can be...

...that atheists (believe themselves to) have the possibility to use a culturally more accepted, "scientific terminology", when attempting to "prove" their faith.

...that few (if any) atheists are on a "religious high" (even if atheism is a religion as well).

...that many theists are too complacent, and/or complacent for all the wrong reasons -- or partly the wrong reasons, even from a theist perspective. A complacency that, at the very least, makes them seem, and sound, ignorant...

...but it will also make them actually ignorant, in the long run. Which is as true about atheists with a similar amount of misplaced complacency, of course.

Shut up, you make athiests sound stupid just with your post. Look, we know we're right as athiests, but we're not convincing any god believers of it, so as long as their immoral books do not interfere with other people's lives or hurt our culture too severly then it is not our responsibility to do anything.

Thanks for examplifying one of my points!

It is, probably -- hopefully --, more clear now what I mean...

BTW, I use the term "nut" as more descriptive than pejorative. For instance, you wanna call me a gun nut, fine by me--I own them, buy and sell them, and am carrying right now. But I don't go blathering on about the Second Amendment, which really does not even address the issue of PRIVATE ownership of firearms. But I digress.

In a larger sense, it is very difficult to verbalize the transcendant experience without sounding, well, a little nutty. That is one reason shamans are often thought of as loony--okay, that and the drug thing.

Besides, you say you talk to god in prayer, fine--you say that god actually answers you, and you get these looks.. ..

I think a lot of uneducated people tend to be theists, but that doesn't mean either most or all theists are uneducated.

Not always more intelligent, just not infected with the mind virus that inhibits logic.
