Ok. So I was reading random pages on Wikipedia the other day and I stumbled onto a page on the holy trinity. While I was in the process of reading through I came to a section on dissent. It detailed that there are people who disagree with the idea of the trinity. Several groups even state that Jesus was nothing more than the Messiah(ie. he was not divine) and that any worship given to him would be rightfully given to God. I try to be more open minded about my beliefs than I am encouraged to be. If something goes against what I have been taught then I will try not to dismiss it as junk before research.

So wat did I do? What I always do when I face a religious dillemma. I looked in the bible. As I scrolled through its dusty pages I noticed there are numerous times where he refers to himself as 'Son of God', but the context is not inferring that he is divine. Infact the term 'Son of God' is used several times in the bible to refer to normal humans, so this statement alone does not lead to divinity. I could not find a section where Jesus calls himself God, even another 'aspect' of God. If anyone here knows of such a verse or scripture, please refer me to it.

If none exists, than we must look at the implications:

-Should we worship Jesus

-Is Islam correct on other topics(Muslims believe this)

-and others I cant think of now.

I have Christian friends who don't believe in Jesus' divinity or the trinity.

The only passage is when he's talking to Pilate and he says "It is you who say that I am." Unfortunately, this doesn't work to support the divinity claim unless he's speaking in Hebrew, and he would have said YWHW for "I am", but this would have been blasphemy to say YHWH, and as a practicing jew i doubt he would have done that. Next, did Pilate speak Hebrew, Latin, Greek, or some other dialect? Did Jesus even know Latin? What language was he speaking in?? The New testament was written in Greek. Did Jesus speak Greek? What were the words he actually said? We don't know. Since the original writing was in Greek, it's probably safe to assume that they didn't put the Hebrew name for God in when he said "It is you who say that I am."

So if Jesus was speaking Hebrew, and Pilate understood Hebrew, and the original writing was in Hebrew, then this coudl somehow link to divinity. Unfortunately, we all speak and read the bible in English (except for a few around here) so it's not really easy to tell unless you look it up in the original.

It's safe to assume Jesus never claimed divinity. He wasn't proclaimed a deity until the 400s C.E.
