Okay.

I drive by this Lutheran church on the way to work every day. I don't know a whole lot about the Lutherans, other than the fact that Garrison Kieler likes to make fun of them.

They have this sign out front. It says "Alpha is here!" and it has some sort of picture on it. I can't for the life of me figure out what the hell the picture is supposed to be.

I took a picture the other day and it's linked below (cropped, to cut out a lot of boring things like the traffic circle down the street):

So, here's what I'm wondering.

First, what the fuck is "alpha"? Does this have anything to do with the whole "I am the alpha and the omega" thing?

Second, what the hell is happening in that picture. It looks like some guy in a yellow shirt getting swacked in the face with an underfilled water balloon or something.

It's a guy carrying a question mark.

I'm a Lutheran.

We're in the season in which we prepare our hearts for christ, so the acting pastor of the church might be playing off of that.

The picture is of a man carrying a question mark. In all probability he wants you to attend his church/call that number to find out.

From what I can tell you, I don't believe anything in that poster is directly adressing official Lutheran doctrine; it's something the pastor is doing.
