View Full Version : Hypocrisy and such

The main problem I have with Christianity is the hypocrisy.

They cite the Bible as a reason why homosexuality is sinful, why abortion is wrong, et cetera, but conveniently ignore the parts of the Bible that don't fit their agenda. Clearly, "God" must somehow condone this two-faced dishonesty, because these hypocritical morons are, according to them, his most loved children.

Why aren't more parents beating their children for annoying them?

Why are menstruating women not being kept apart from everyone else and considered unclean until the even?

Why aren't people being stoned to death for masturbating, or forgetting to keep holy the Sabbath, or taking the Lord's name in vain?

For that matter, why the fuck aren't more fundamentalist Christians loving their neighbors as themselves, like Jesus said to, but instead spreading hatred and disharmony and trying to drive people apart over small differences instead of bringing them together as human beings? Christian fundies are the most infuriating, close-minded, ignorant people I have ever encountered and they refuse to accept the possibility that maybe, just MAYBE, they could be wrong about what their precious "Lord" really wants from them.

Please note, this is not an attack on all Christians. One of my closest friends is Catholic, and another is Baptist. Both are intelligent, reasonable human beings who refuse to fall back on "god" as an excuse for atrocious behavior toward one's fellow man.

Oh look, another bright young man. Well said.

Christians, a vicious retort damning this sinner to Hell is in order. One, two, three... GO!

I agree. I was raised by fundamentalist parents. I'm happy to say, they've relaxed as they've gotten older. My best friend, who is like a brother to me (and like a son to them) came out of the closet after high school. I was quite surprised when my mom's response was, "I don't really think it's right, but he can do what he wants. I just hope he stays safe."

The one thing I dislike about your argument is that people often don't look at the big picture of things. For instance, what good does it do anyone to beat their kids for being annoying, or shunning menstruating women, or stoning people? Back then, it may have achieved something. Nowadays, not really.

However, homosexuality and abortion alter the lives of people. There are higher risks of disease in the homosexual community (this is CDC confirmed) and studies have also shown feelings of depression and regret amongst women who've had abortions. Does it justify these rights being abolished? Of course not. But people need to put more thought into things.

For instance, as a Christian, I can't say I 'support gay rights'. You aren't going to find me marching down Times Square wearing a tiger-striped dongthong with a pink band on my arm. But I respect that if a person wants to be gay, that's their choice to do so. The most Christian thing I can do is wish them good health, encourage safe decisions, and probably pray for them, their general safety and guidance. To be honest though, I rarely pray at all. Guess I'm not doing the 'most Christian thing'. http://www.totse.com/bbs/tongue.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/tongue.gif)

But I try. http://www.totse.com/bbs/redface.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/redface.gif)

Agreed, alot of Christians are hypocrits in that sense.

But your also forgetting that the Old Testament Mosaic law doesnt apply to modern Christianity at all.

If Old Testament law doesn't apply to modern Christianity at all, modern Christians should simply stop citing it as justification for certain things. If it doesn't apply, it doesn't apply at all, they can't just use the bits they want (like the no homosexuals bit) and leave out the parts they don't like.
