If everyone else returned that compassion it would be all fine and dandy. However, simply because of human nature (I'm not saying that people can't be that way, they just don't) it makes being that way all the time unrealistic.

Compassion is for weak fools. Show compassion only when it will benefit you. Like when a guy has a 12 gauge shotgun at your temple, it's alright to be compassionate to him, and feel sorry for him, and be nice and all, until you have the shotgun at his head and you perform a small operation resulting in the relocation of his brain.
