Ok so for most of my life I have been christian...But today a lady came up and gave me a card and a book, on the card on the back it basically said to be saved and go to heaven for eternal life all you need to do is believe that jesus died for all of our sins etc etc, but then I found a scripture in the bible totally disproving that and saying that you cant just believe to go to heaven. Now I really dont know what to believe...she gave me this thnig expecting me to believe what it says, so how do I know that the bible isint just bull? anyway I would like some more questions to ask this pastor guy im seeing soon, questions that disprove christianity beliefs and stuff. Id also like them to possibly look up.

thanks in advance

First, and foremost, you will not be able to disprove Christianity to the pastor. He will not listen to anything you say, and there's a good chance he'll throw out an apologetic that will stump you for the moment, and you'll find out later it's been refuted by atheists who've done their homework.

As far as "knowing the Bible isn't bull" and such, I have a few viewpoints for you to consider:

1)The Ghost Dance. In the early 1890s, the Souix and Lakota tribes began believing that Jesus and their ancestors were returning. This was after the white man had taken all their land, killed a ton of buffalo, and shipped the indian off to reservations. One indian has a dream that all this messianic crap happens, and tells all his fellow indians they much wear special 'ghost shirts' and do a ghost dance. In a short matter of time, Jesus and the ancestors would return, and a great tsunami would wash over the US, washing all the white man away and leaving the indians behind. Plus the buffalo would return and they'd all live happily ever after.

Of course, the indians thought this all sounded like a very cool idea, so many started to perform the ghost dance and wear the ghost shirts. The 'prophet' who made up all this crap also told his fellow indians that the 'ghost shirts' would...stop bullets. Needless to say, eventually the army saw all the indians wearing these new shirts and performing these new dances, and decided to mow them down with an old-school gatlin gun. The indians soon found that the ghost shirts didn't stop bullets, and many stopped believing in the messianic bullshit they'd been fed.

Here's the funny part...I said "many", you notice that? Yeah, there are indians that are still waiting for that fucking tsunami to wipe out the white man to this day!

The point? Christianity is just a long term ghost dance. The original writers weren't so dumb to put something so easily disproveable as 'Jesus shirts stop bullets' in the doctrine, but that doesn't mean Christianity doesn't carry a metaphorical ghost shirt of its own: armagedon. Jesus will save them from the 'final battle'. It's only a matter of time until another big world war happens, and when it does, and Jesus doesn't come to save the day, Christians will realize that their ghost shirt didn't stop the bullet.

2) Another fun way of looking at Christianity. Christianity is founded on Jesus, this dude who performed a bunch of miracles, died for the sins of man, rose from the dead, and floating up into the sky. You should believe all this because it was written in 1 book, and only because it was written in this 1 book.

Say Bush addressed congress earlier today. I didn't get to see his speech. Say 1 person walked up to me and told me, "Bush was humming the Macarena when he approached the podium and the mic caught it". Hell, I'd believe that. Say five people walked up to me and told me the president performed the Macarena in the middle of his speech, insisting they all witnessed it. I'd probably buy it, too. He's a bit off his lid, after all.

Now let's say 100 hundred people approach me and insist in all seriousness they witnessed Bush rise into the sky, strip down to a speedo, and declare himself the King of the Macarena while levatating 20 feet in the air. On top of that, they provide video of this all happening.

You know what I, or any other rational person would think..."FAKE". Probably a clever trick pulled off. There's a good chance that even the ones telling me are being paid to do so. It has to be a joke, fraud.

And yet, we are expected to believe that a man rose from the dead and floated away some 2000 years ago, based solely on a book of questionable origins? Think about it.

What is the Scripture that says you don't just believe?

I love how you choose the "wisdom" of other kidiots over the omniscience of God.

That just slays me.

Which scripture was that ?

It sounds like you've been following the religiosity of Christianity because you were raised in it, and for no other reason.

Start studying the Bible, and the answers will come to you.

There are only false assumptions and misperceptions, all of which can be refuted/corrected.

The Bible is the inerrant word of God, and He is very real.

You don't seem to have made any effort whatsoever to find Him, so the burden is on yourself, not your pastor.

The omniscience of God that knowingly creates inquisitive beings on a planet full of conflicting religions coupled with what those beings percieve as science, that argues with all the religions, and therefore knowingly dooming a majority of the souls He created to an eternity of pain and suffering??? Coupled with the gaul to declare Himself omnibenevolent, merciful, and worthy of our praise?!

That just slays me.

If a person hasn't read the Bible, and then consults the wisdom of other 14 year olds for the secrets to the universe and understanding of our existence, how can he be taken seriously ?

I mean, at least post something legit, and not the 4 paragraph essays of societal rejects who have found their long lost homes here on totse.com.

I'd start with that as my reason against christianity.
