View Full Version : The Satanic Bible
I've been having a read through this and it's pretty interesting.
If anyone else on here has read it, what are your views?
The thing that seemed to leap out at me the most is it seemed to be the pocket book of masturbation. Very interesting otherwise.
Altho I do not follow satanism or wot not, i do think the satanic bible makes ALOT of sense; sumone hits u so u hit them back kind of thing, and believing in yourself and not some fictional character.
i mean, women always go on about believing in themselves and this 'girl power' shyte (lmao), well dusnt the satanic bible pretty much follow the same idea?
..i always thought it were very similair anyway.
i havnt actualy read it in a few years so im sorry i cant say much more.

The Satanic Bible was written by some angsty 16 year old. When I read it I laughed - he was obviously trying to be hardcore.

You're an idiot if you take the Satanic Bible seriously.

The satanic bible was written to be the complete opposite of the Christian bible. Lavey wrote a book that tells people how to live completely for themselves, therefore it is the opposite of the Christian bible which says to live entirely for God.

Exactly. Most people follow the ways of the satanic Bible and don't even know it.

Although the Satanic Bible should not be interpreted literally, it offers a non-pussy way to live your life unlike most other religions

I have read the Satanic Bible out of curiosity.
Personally I found it to be the epitome of selfishness.
In all honestly I do not think that this philosophy could benefit mankind as a whole. Let alone benefit an individual.
All that selfishness would lead to self destruction.

you are you and i am me. what the fuck more do you need? selfishness is part of being human. lavey did follow everything he wrote, he basically brought laveyanism to where it is today thats why its still standing. i don't follow it but the book does have some interesting things that i've followed all along.
It is of import that 'Satan', as modern people think they know him, is a rather nebulous entity.
If one were to take the bible literally, his name is not 'Satan'. Rather, his title is 'The Satan', and it's written that he works for god. His name roughly translates to 'The Adversary', and his task is to test mankind in its loyalty to the will of god.
Essentially, his job is to set us up.
He appears in several points throughout the Bible, originally titled 'The Satan' but later on simply referred to as 'Satan' as if it were his name. His name is never given (hint: It's not Lucifer, which appears only once in the bible in a psalm relating to a mortal king) and nowhere - not once - is he ever given as evil in the holy text.
All of that nonsense about the cloven hooves and the pitchfork and everything? Invented after the fact, outside of canon, by preachers and holy men.
The Devil? That guy ruling over the lake of fire where all the infidels go? They never explain where he comes from. The best explanation so far has come from the Jewish sect, in which rabbis theorize that the serpent that coaxed Eve into disobeying god in the garden of Eden was, in fact, our pal Satan and after his direct betrayal of god he was cast into hell to do his thing.
But that would fly in the face of the rest of the bible (just as well, the Jews don't believe in any of the new testament anyway).
So rest assured that much of what you think you know about Satan is, according to the book that proclaims that it is the authority on the subject, wrong. Including this.
That leaves the Devil, separate from our pal Satan, as the stand in. For what it's worth, I think it's something of merit. The ideal of living for yourself is something I can agree with, and while my execution of such a lifetyle is markedly different from that of the Satanic Bible in some glaring respects, I think it's on the right track. But that track doesn't keep it from being predictable and sophmoric.
So God wants to control you and the Devil must just want you to do your thing. It's very 60's, man. Groovy.
It is undeservedly blown out of proportion, as well as used for its supposed shock value by various sects that like to all act different exactly the same way, usually by rebelling in a predictable manner and wearing a lot of black.
So on that note, ho hum.

LaVeyan Satanism, is, by and large, a load of shit.
One thing that really pisses me off is people going around saying "OMG, look at me, I'm a LaVeyan Satanist."
This pisses me off for two reasons. One, usually they just do it to gain attention and notoriety. Two, LaVeyan Satanism is an absolute load of bullshit.
It has absolutely nothing to do with Satan, in any way shape or form. The entire thing is based around doing what's best for yourself, to gain material possessions and further yourself in this world. Sound familiar? That isn's Satanism, that's common fucking sense. Everybody lives like that, in case you hadn't noticed.
It wouldnt piss me off so much, but the fact that LaVey chose to use the Sigil of Baphomet as the "Church of Satan's" logo is completely fucking stupid. If you reject the idea of Satan as an actual entity, then why the fuck are you ising a symbol adopted by the devil worshippers amongst the Knights Templar? Why? It has absolutely nothing to do with what you are on about.
Here are the "Nine Rules" of LaVeyan Satanism:
1. Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked.
2. Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them.
3. When in another’s lair, show him respect or else do not go there.
4. If a guest in your lair annoys you, treat him cruelly and without mercy.
5. Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal.
6. Do not take that which does not belong to you unless it is a burden to the other person and he cries out to be relieved.
7. Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to obtain your desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will lose all you have obtained.
8. Do not complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself.
9. Do not harm little children.
10. Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food.
11. When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask him to stop. If he does not stop, destroy him.
Whoa, shit. How very fucking Satanic. This looks more like an ettiquette FAQ from Florence's Puddleby's Fucking Manners School.
All of this LaVeyan shit is treated like some divine fucking enlightenment... "Holy shit, if I'm more of an asshole to people, and start caring about myself more, I'll get by better in life..."
No shit, Sherlock.

Lavey's satanism is ethically ok for me but if they have a problem with group conformity. Why the fuck join a group called the satanists? dumb fucks.
I'd rather make my own ideas based on my experiences in this life, and hopefully the wisdom to make ideas increases and passes on to my next life. Becoming better and improving myself is my goal.
Life is just a road for everyone to travel on.

I wouldn't take it too seriously, it has some values i agree with and some i don't. Hitting people when they hit you is not a way to make the world a better place.
I guess you could say karma and buhhdism make much more sense, but then they are limmited by the fact the world is a pretty fucked up place and shit happens a lot.
I suppose satanism is quite a good guide to survival in some ways, but i don't believe it corresponds to fufilment with life, and tbh, i'd much rather shape my own beliefs about life.
That said satanism is definatly an interesting philosophy, and LaVey wrote it in an interesting way. Don't take the Church of Satan too seriously though!
