I was just thinking to myself, and realised that many people change their names. Now my question is:

Does God frown upon name changes, as it is essentially lying?

Some people though, have to change their names, whether it be for witness protection, etc. Does God shun them?

Thats a very good point....He doesn't adress it in the bible that I know of, but he does adress lying...Isn't name change a form of lying?

Who are you lying to by changing your name? Most of society never knew your birthname to begin with, and all the people you do know are going to know what your new name is, right? So who would you be lying to?

Jews believe your name is linked to your destiny, if you change your Hebrew name, you can signify a new turn in your life.

I cant see the harm in it. The greatest missionary, Paul, was named Saul before his conversion.

yeah, Jesus changed Paul's name.

Basically, a name change is something you do to signify that you are a new person. So no, God does not frown upon it.

The Bible says that you should obey the laws of your land. If one of the laws is that you can change your name, then you're fine.
