When question why there is evil in this world, Christians often resort to the notorious free will defense.

So far, here's the best & shortest answer to that:

BEFORE Eve ate the apple, was there free will?

Supposing if God didn't create the damn tree at all, could Eve eat the apple and also, could she still have free will?

In our legal system, we try people using the "but for" test.

We ask ourselves: Could the accused have committed the crime if the one main factor that caused the crime was not present?

Clearly, the free will defense have failed the "but for" test.

Because, it is the existence of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil that causes the problem of evil. Pretty much open and shut case.

There was no tree, there is no God. How does that make you feel?
