View Full Version : Why do you put faith in [insert god here]?

Seriously, I want to know. I used to be a christian, untill a couple months ago. I realized that i was afraid of what would happen to me after I died. I wasn't afraid of going to this so called, Hell. I was afraid of there not being a Hell, or a Heaven. So the whole time i was convincing myself that there was this mystical being that would rescue me when i died, to calm my fears of death. I think everyone is afraid of dying.
I also believed in God because it was a simple way of explaining everything in life that i did not understand. For example, how was the universe created? Humanity created gods to explain things of mystery. The God Zues "helped" us explain why there was thunder. But later on in life, science found the real answer, and the need for gods decreased. Eventually, science will be able to prove how the universe was created.
So, why do you put faith in your god?

I really can't wait for that to happen. It just blows your mind when you start thinking about that kind of stuff. I trully do hope it happens while I'm still alive.

I'm more afraid of living forever than I am of dying. Maybe reincarnation would be favorable, but still. Imagine being stuck in one place for eternity. Eternity, it never stops. Frightening for me.
Edit: still, there's more arguments against "god" than for him. So I'm a little confident in that area.

You mean you are more afraid of living forever then dying?
Live, die. It's all good.

i have faith that God exists, but not in the orthodox sense that mainstream religions have on God. mine is alittle more metaphor, crossed with science, and cross references between religions.
I am not a christian, but I have a belief in a God. We all are this God, all the universe energy (in any way) together, so a God of pure energy, but we are it in a minor way. It makes sense to me to call this entity the creator because of the saying "energy creates matter, and matter creates energy". It created us, we created ourselves in the physical way, but our energy "form" is smarter, knows everything, omnipotent, etc. This energy form for me is what we are after death, and continue on this cycle until we ascend into a new "form" and continue going up until we get to the highest level, or the major part of God ourselves.

Because this question is asked over and over again. The responses are always the same and it goes something like this...
Christian - I believe in God because He changed my way of life and gave me another hope.
non-christian - you're a dumb moron for believing in God.
Christian - no it's true. I used to be this way and now I'm not..PRAISE GOD!!
non-christian - I hate you = I hope you die and maggots eat your face off.
Christian - but I love you and so does God.
non-christian - I will eat you in a stew..
Christian - WHy do you hate me?
non-chrisitan - because there is no god and you are a moron.
Christian - I'll pray for you.
non-christian - pray for yourself I don't need it. Now go die and leave us alone here to talk about spirituality without you god lovers messing it up.
Ok everyone..god sucks right?
another non-christian - yeah lets kill the xtians!!
or something like that...
what's the point?

It's funny how no religious people responded. I guess that proves my point that religion is false, and that they are all hiding behind false statements.
I win.

I'm not sure what you mean by all that "creates" business, but matter IS energy and therefore energy IS matter.
