it also states that God is everywhere.
That doesn't make sense.

No, what makes sense.
The Bible states that God is everywhere, and He is.
However, our sin disconnects us from Him. In heaven, our sin has been washed away by Christ's blood, and there are no more barriers between us and God...for eternity.
This is why people who are very close to God on Earth (like Mother Theresa) sin very little and experience His blessings here on earth very much.

You expect the Bible to make sense? In that case, let me tell you about some really good swampland I have for sale. . . .
Seriously, Pope John Paul II, who should know about such things, said in 1999 that hell was not a literal place, but a state of mind.

God is everwhere, but one can live under the illusion that he is not.
Whatever you believe you will experience as true.
Or to put it another way, your belief does not change ultimate reality, only your experience of it.

Wouldn't that also mean that Heaven is a state of mind?

God made hell and Hell exists within God and only by God. According to me.

I used to subscribe to the idea that Hell was separation, but have started to think about it in a new way.
Hell could be the state where you don't feel His presence, love, warmth, grace. Without the right tuning, one's soul won't be able to experience, or know, the Greatness of the Almighty.

I mean the state of the soul after death, not like, walking down the street without feeling God.
