I've been reading about the number, and I've studied how to find PHI in numerous situations. But it still confuses me. The internet is confusing me, and I need some other help. How exactly do you find PHI in a situation? Please, give me examples of PHI. Thank you.

Firstly, the people in Mad Scientists would be far more helpful in answering any questions you have about phi (the golden number).
As to where it comes from, it can be found in many, many places. The easiest to conceptualize is the golden rectangle.

I decided the whole "OMGWTFBBQ PHI" concept was bullshit after watching the movie Pi: Faith in Chaos.
Phi is seen in biology. It's interesting to see how the ratio appears naturally, but numbers like e and pi are much more useful and applicable to many more things.
The fibonnaci series:
0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55,89,144...
To get the next term, add the previous two terms together. To get phi, divide two adjascent terms. The higher the term, the more accurate phi will be.
eg. 89/144 = 0.618056
and 144/89 = 1.617978
= the two values of phi.
