Yo!

I have rediscovered some christian values over the past few years.

I went to a catholic school when I was young, and all of the stuff there just went over my head, cos I was just a kid.

So I forgot about everything, and never really believed in God, but I know a lot about the bible, just because it has been hammered into my head.

And over the past few years, I have thought alot about God and christianity, and view it like this.

I don't think Jesus was devine... well, not anymore devine than you or I.

Let me start over.

I believe God means Love. Litraly. Go through the teachings of Jesus and replace the word God with Love, and it makes alot more sense.

And by love, I mean all feelings of affection, even to people you don't know.

If I do something nice, I'll do it because of a love I have for that person, even if it's helping someone across the street, and I never met them before, I do it because I have some like toward the person I supose. If you want, you can call that God helping me do a good deed.

So, I see Jesus as just a guy that went and thought about things, and then thought 'hang on, we could all live alot better off if we all loved one another a little more'

He then got together some mates, and went around telling people they can be nicer to eachother, if they do this and this and this...

I don't believe he did miricles, I think they are just examples.

It is impossible to feed 5000 people with 5 loaves and 2 fish, BUT, it is also pretty improbible that if 5000 people were going out for the day to listen to a guy talk, they would only bring out 5 loaves and 2 fish between them...

The moral of that story, I think, is that Jesus taught a group of people to share, and everyone was fed. So, I guess the miricle was, he got 5000 people to share their food with eachother.

So, by this logic, anyone can be the same as Jesus.

I could go out now, and start telling people that I think we could all live better if we loved people a little more, and just try to spread a message of love any way I could, as far as I could, and I would be the new Jesus.

Many people would hate it, and call me crazy, but that happened to Jesus too. If I knew deep down that love is the answer, then I would fight for it.

And a little part of me wants too.

What do you think?

Oddly enough, my religion teacher in 10th grade mentioned the same thing; the "miracles" just being exaggerated. When I asked what the hell were we in class for if all Jesus did was teach sharing (something we learned in kindergarten), he kicked me out of the room. Not the answer I wanted, but I can see your point. None of us were there to see it, so it makes sense to hype it up to make people believe that Jesus was the real deal.

As for love... well, in a verse in John's gospel, it's mentioned that God is love. Jesus was crucified for telling everyone to love one another (and for saying he was the Son of God, but that's another story, lol). You said you might be willing to fight... but would you be willing to die to spread a message that, in your lifetime and millenia afterwards, would still be misinterpreted and incorrectly implemented?

Maybe we need a second coming to clear this up.

Hmmmm..... I definitly see the logic of what you are saying. but hear is the deal what you are saying you are willing to go teach people how to love and to share, is exactly what jesus told us to do, it is what God told us to do. "strive to be like Jesus, live like Jesus. That is our christian duty!

But like you said we are going to have to wait for his glorious return.

Until then brother lets go out and help jesus save theese lost souls!!

But, maybe I am the return.

Maybe the second coming will be jsut some guy, just like jesus was some son of a carpenter.

Maybe I will go out into the desert for 40 days, think about all this, and when I come back, be Jesus mk.II

Know what I'm saying?

I've had similar thoughts on occasions ,Only replacing god with yourself instead of love ...

Mind you ,it'll work just as well If you say fluffy dolphin ... It all works ....

No it wouldn't.

I think you are missing the point.

I'm saying that the God in the bible, and the whole meaning of the bible, is a message of love.

Some people think of God as a 'thing', but I am saying God is the concept of love.

It wouldn't work with anything you throw into it, there are no fluffy dolphins involved.

It makes sense if jesus said 'I am the son of love', as in, he is someone who has found a way for love to exist between people.

It wouldn't make sense if he said 'I am the son of fluffy dolphin'

You are making out that you can throw anything into the bible to replace God and it will still make sense, but its not true.

I'm not sure about that, why does one word change the entire bible? Why does it become more plausible by using the word ,"God"? Or Love? Does the bibles credibilty rely on it not being a fluffy dolphin?

Why can't a fluffly dolphin preach Love? Seems like the best thing to me personally. Also ,if you read the Bible (well ... new testament) regardless of what wording you use you should still come out with love ...

God ,Love or Fluffy Dolphin ,the message ends up the same. Childrens 5 page books can containa message of love. It's not the words ,but the wording that matter. Calling something by a differant name doesn't change what it is...

But that said , I still think people should take the Love from the bible ,it seems that people will accept this , but won't really believe in it .... Oh well...
