Westboro Baptist Church thinks that America is being punished by god America furthermore they believe it is there duty to rejoice when anything bad that happens to America. All this because of Americas (mostly non persecuting) stance on homosexuals. They believe God is responsible for 9/11, Space Shuttle Columbia, West Virginia coal miners, hurricane Katrina, and the war in Iraq. There leader Fred Waldron Phelps once said in his sermons that every one who died on 9/11 was “either a fag or a fag enabler”. They are often found protesting/rejoicing at military funerals and at events relating to a disaster. This sometimes spurs violence.

Most of them are apart of the same family and all live in a compound. On top of that they think that they are the only church on the earth that practices Christianity correctly In my opinion the fit the traditional idea of a cult.

This people are a crazy. Why do they do this? Do they just like to see people die (as said by some children of the church in a sky news report)? Are they trying to put Christianity in a bad light? Attention whores? Or do you think they actually believe what they perch?

What is scary is that they have bible citations to back up there beliefs, the whole can any one find a bible citation contradicts there whole operation? I don’t want to believe the bible tells some Christians to be this crazy.

Yes, I was researching the Bible and found this interesting verse. 1 John 4:8, "Whoever does not love, does not know God, for God is love." Now, if they claim to be loving people ... I doubt that would hold true to anyone. Therefore there whole argument is moot. I also found this. John 3: 16 "For God so loved the WORLD that he gave his only Son to die for us..." 2 Corinthians 5:15, "and he died for all..." Romans 3:10-12 "There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All of turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one." Now from their stance they seem to think of themselves as the righteous ones, when really they are sinners just like those who comit acts of homosexuality, but it is the act that is condemned not the person. So there argument is blasphemous and nonchristian all together according to the Bible.

I want to ask the Westboro Baptist Church's something about their idea. Instead of saying "God is Punishing America" why don't they say that all things from God are good, including when God kills people. This would be radical still but might not offend people as much as blaming them and saying they are being "punished". Rather that all this that is happening to people is good, even the worst things, and that even the death of a soldier is a gift from God.

They are all around messed up people. I don't think they care about anything in the bible outside the first few old testiment books. And even then they don't take it literaly, they seem to think that they are Gods chosen people not the Jews.

about the military funerals: one of the local american legion posts has a motorcycle club. they went to one of the funeral protests on their bikes. a cop layed down the rule to their anti-protest. while the church people were singing, the bike motors kept getting revved. pissed those bastards off to no end.

I just don't understand why these assholes have yet to get their asses handed to them by enraged funeral attendees. If any of my buddies died in Iraq it would be a dark day if these asses showed up at the funeral.
