View Full Version : How to Meditate

Here is how I have learnt to meditate
There are four brain levels.
Beta: (awake state)
Alpha: (Start of Subconscious mind What your like when your relaxed or watching TV, or daydreaming.)
Theta: (Deep Subconscious mind, Access through sleep or meditation or sleep)
Delta: (Unconscious mind, Access through sleep or meditation, or anaesthesia)
(More on those brain levels later though.)
1) Complete physical relaxion is the key to entering deeper mind levels. So you should remember that you have no tight clothing on, or any external sounds, that will hinder you from concentrating. However if a mowing lawn mower or clutter noise outside is impossible to escape from use the following phrase:
"External noises do not bother me, infact they help me focus deeper within myself. Each time I hear these noises my mind gets deeper and deeper, my body get lighter and lighter until I am completely relaxed."
If you are having trouble physically relaxing try the below technique.
Take a deep breath and let it out slowly. Do that a few times and then take a deep breath and tighten your feet and lower legs. Make them really tight and then with the exhale release the tension. Do that a couple of times, then work your way up your entire body.
feet and lower legs
thighs and lower torso
upper torso & back
arms and hands
neck, shoulders and head
Then tighten the entire body 1/2 strength and release. This should put you into a nice state of relaxation. When you a physically relaxed then you are ready to move onto number 2.
2) It needs to be realised that forcing yourself to meditate will not work. YOU NEED TO LET GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is a nice little story:
___________________________________________
A guy wants to learn karate. He seeks out the greatest karate master in his country. he approaches the master and explains how he really wants to learn karate and the master is pleased. The guy asks the master how long will it take to get really good at karate? the master says 10 years. The guy
thinks for a bit and says what if i try really hard? the master says it would then take 20 years. The guy says what if i TRY really, really hard? the mast says 30 years........
____________________________________________
The act of trying negates itself. Sometimes you just need to let go and let the waters take you where they are most comfortable flowing toward. Sometimes when you want to control something you are acting from a more intellectual frame of mind. This needs to be set free, let go, put aside. As you know theta is much more abstract and non linear. Logic/intellect is really only needed in very small doses to keep you focused and to make sense of what has happened when you get back to alpha/beta. When you can let go and PLAY with the experience you can start to understand the rules. When you understand the rules you can later break them and/or bend them One rule that comes to mind is to always be thankful for whatever experience you have this saves you a seat on the next trip to higher vibratory experiences.
3) Now with your body fully relaxed it is now time to concentrate on your breathing. It doesn't matter what breathing method you use. I personally when I do it is like this:
Deep inhale for: 6 counts
Hold Breath for: 4 counts
Exhale for: 6 counts
After getting into a nice rhythem of doing that the 1st exercise to try is:
4) "Becoming Your Breath"
This involves as you breathe in and out, you are putting your awareness in following what your breath does as you breathe in and out. You attach yourself to it mentally.
When you have "Mastered" that technique, you then can move onto the:
5) "Breathing through all your pores in the body exercise."
This technique is a step up from becoming your breath as it focuses on your awareness being "All over your body".
*As you breathe in imagine your awareness is still your breath, but you are getting the feeling of your breath/awareness getting pulled into every pore of your body.
*As you breathe out, you feel your awareness/breath being pushed out of every pore of your body.
This exercise should start to get you on a deeper level of mind.
6) This technique is exactly the same as the breathing through the pores of your body exercise..Yet now you are to imagine your breath is a golden/white light being breathed in and out of EVERY single pore in your body.
By doing this you if not all ready you will have already started to feel your body vibrate. Focus on those vibrations to get them even more intense
7) Filling the Balloon Exercise
This helps with getting rid of any negative energy you may have while doing the meditation. It is where you see a picture of yourself in your head, and a deflated balloon above you.
As you breathe in and out imagine this balloon filling up with all your negative energy. Dont think of specific's just reject them in bulk. When the Balloon is full, tie it up and release the balloon so it is never seen again.
8) The wall exercise.
Imagine while doing the meditation, that there is a force field, that rejects any negative thoughts before you can even get a chance to think about it.
9) Imagining Your Mind As A Tower Exercise
This involves imagining that your mind is your own personalised golden building, and imagining you are at the top of it.
You step into the lift or elevator and proceeded to travel down it. With each breath you go down the levels of your building, deeper and deeper your mind will follow.
10) Writing on the blackboard task
If your conscious mind gets distracted on thoughts give it a task to complete, while this process of you going down the levels of your building.
What task you may say? How about this.
You standing up at the black board in an empty classroom. You are to draw a circle on the blackboard in your mind.
From there you are to write the letter "A" in that circle nice and neat so all points of the letter are touching the circle. Once that is done, get the duster and rub the letter "A" out while keeping the circle perfectly intact. Then write the letter "B" in the circle and so on...
This whole time while doing this you are imagining yourself exploring your personal building, made out of gold, and finding the deeper you go into your building, the deeper your mind goes.
This exercise isn't needed if you are fully involved in visualising yourself go "down" your minds building.
The End
There it is, they are a couple of the basic techniques in learning to meditate. I will go into a few more intermediate exercises later. I hope this can help anybody wanting to learn to meditate.
Would love to hear anybodies questions or feedback after trying the techniques as well.

go some where with lots of distractions and learn to ignore them or somewhere quite and focus on one aspect of transgression rather than a massive forced movement towards enlightenment
[This message has been edited by Anti Christ Super Star (edited 06-17-2006).]
Reality, I tried a couple of those methods upon waking and found that I reached a calm that I hadn't attained before in meditation. It helped out man, thanks a lot! Do you have any information on sort of altered consciousness meditation? The meditation using mantras is for transcendental meditation is it not? Do you know anything about that too?
ive tried these a few times with hopes to get lucid dreams but i have add therefore cant concentrate hard enough. any tips?

Iam, I am glad it helped you. There are many ways to get deeper and deeper. But if you had success with breathing the light through your pores exercise. You expand on that technique.
Expanding the light Techqnique.
Once being able to breathe through the pores of your skin with the light. You are now able to expand that light.
As you breathe in imagine all the light being pulled through the pores of your body.
As you breathe out:
1st Imagine your "light body" expand out of all your pores until it has reached 1 metre above your body. Then try to hold your perception from the top of your awareness which is 1 metre above you.
As you breathe in imagine it going back into your body again, then expanding out even further to the top of the room.
Then repeat and expand your light/awareness above your house. And keep going and going until you feel relaxed.
This exercise helping you imagine what things look like. Once this is mastered, you are getting close to trying the infinity breathing technique. Which you might have read from the SSUN Project. But is a little more advanced, but incredibly strong. You lose all sense of even having a body.
FLAME in Heart Exercise.
While in meditation picture a flame in your heart. This flame has now become a permanent part of your being. It reflects the joy and happiness that is inside you and glows even brighter.
The more life tries to take this flame away from you, the stronger it glows until no negativity is in your life at all.
You will remember what you have said to yourself about the flame, but you may forget. But the more you forget, the more you remember, longer the next time, and even longer the next time because this is now a permanent part of you.
SMILING WITH EYES Exercise.
This one doesn't involved meditation, just from now on, speaking to people see the difference of them when you smile at them through your eyes. So Imagine what it is like to be the happiest you have ever been, then keep a straight face, and project that feeling through your eyes.
They will pick up the "vibes" and you will wonder how they can reflect what your feeling just by smiling through your eyes!

The Most Powerful Meditation I know- The infinity breathing Technique.
The 1st workshop teaches a technique to enter the Void of Delta consciousness through the Infinity Breathing technique and become familiar with what it is like to reside both within and without, both as part of and all of, the One. To complete this workshop is to see that when we are connected to the Void we are stepping outside of ourselves and experiencing life as it is in its entirety, instead of only through our 6 senses. The culmination of the 1st workshop will see to it that trainees are then able to step inside and outside of themselves whenever one or the other is most beneficial (both to self and One), and to know which instances are more beneficial for one way of perceiving reality or the other.
In order to engage this technique, the individual must be in perfect health, perfect contentment, and already well-versed in RI and RV techniques, especially the notion of breathing light through all the pores of the body (can also be interpretted as "radiating" the light), having it expand and contract in synchronization with the most natural and relaxed of breathing patterns. This technique expands off of this notion and so it must be accomplished first ideally, although a bypass is possible, especially considering the incredible power of the technique, and so it is very important that anyone and everyone interested in trying the technique do so, regardless of experience.
The Infinity Breathing Technique- Background info
1) When one is lying down, with the entire body at a most comfortable temperature, with no sickness, no aches, no mental distress, and ideally, no outside noise whatsoever, the initial process of relaxing the breathing rate and envisioning the light pulsating in conjuction with the rate of breathing may be begun.
2) When the sinking effect starts to begin, the notion of infinity may be explored freely with the mind - it is important that a true perception of infinity be accomplished at this stage. Infinity allows all things to occur simultaneously at once (this notion will be a bridge to the 2nd workshop), and as such, will easily even allow for a, well, Infinite variety of realities to be occuring all at once, either dimensionally, temporally, or spacially (spacially is key to this technique), such that any atom of this world's construct could be "zoomed" in upon to reveal a universe within it, and then an atom from that world revealing another universe, and so on, and so on, infinitely... as well as, our universe, when "zoomed" out upon, could reveal it to be "nothing more" than an atom within a universe a "level up", and that universe an atom in a universe another level up, and so on and so forth. These of course can continue on infinitely in either direction, and so we realize that while infinity may be able to truly express itself dimensionally and temporally, it is in the spacial sense that this 1/infinity source has given "birth" to 2 (TWO), where all things have henceforth been created from. This technique embraces this notion and commits oneself to it, and it is once this is done that it will work.
3) As one continues to breath the light in and out, they begin to imagine (and this will only work this way, not the other way around.... there is a way to explain this) that as they breathe in, they begin to travel through spacial infinity outwards, starting with a short distance, and increasing in distance with each breath, such that when they breathe in, they go "up one level", and when they breathe out, they go back through their level and "down one level". After awhile, the notion of levels will not be necessary any longer. As infinity becomes more and more embraced, the notion of such a "microscopic" physical reality of just one single level becomes inperceptable as the infinite reality begins to flood into ones consciousness. As a result, the void is entered instantly and ones physical body can no longer be perceived as it is located in a place that is even more microscopic than microscopy itself (Remember, you are breathing in as you travel through spacial infinity macroscopically, and breathing out as you travel through S.I. microscopically... as such, after the first breath in, you are henceforth zooming right past the level where your physical body is, never really going back to it again until you wish to return).
4) When in the void, downloading is faciliated immensely, and exploration of one's higher consciousness greatly expanded. One, after successfully accomplishing this technique, experience such a state of shock of the loss of sense of their physical body (this happened to this body the first time too) that they will instantly snap back to their body - it is very difficult to avoid having this happen during the 1st successful attempt as it is indeed very shocking - but all one need remember is that we are truly and honestly heading to a place (and those there have already brought some of it "here") where much, much more unbelievable things are possible, and then one should not be shocked about such a thing, it is in fact a very natural state that many have engaged in for, likely, thousands of years, and that one should be quite the opposite - their most comfortable - here, rather than shocked.
5) After this, the 2nd or 3rd successful attempt should ideally result in one's ability to experience the void at their leisure, and reap all the benefits that are associated with exploration of such an ego-less place where one's self, especially their physical self, is quite litterally, the last thing on their mind. Everything but! Once one feels truly comfortable here, the tools will present themselves, express through the large categories of RV and RI, and much else will likely follow suit with no need to concentrate on individual tasks at all (this is also a bridge to the 2nd work shop - aptly named "Automation, a Final Result of RV/RI Work".

The Infinity Breathing Technique
________________________________
Steps for the Technique:
0) Suggestion - Play some suitable background noise/music, my recommendations are (feel free to add recommendations!): The Drone Zone, you can find this Winamp Internet Radio Station if you search for it on Shoutcast.com, The Theta/Delta CD that accompanies the RI course, and The Mind Meditation audio files that were made available in the recommendations section.
1) Preparation - With optional background music playing quietly, otherwise, with no outside noise (or as little as possible), lie down, flat on back, head on pillow(s) (or flat if you prefer), under a blanket if it is cold, in as good of health as possible, no mental or emotional concerns, perfectly content, sleepy but not too sleepy, on a comfortable bed, and begin doing the light-breathing technique if you know how to do it. If not, begin breathing in and out slowly, in an effort to slow your breathing, your heartbeat and the natural pulse of the body, pausing between breathing both in and out.
2) Contemplation - At this point, the mental "realization" of infinity is engaged, such that our continuously expanding perception of infinity is achieved by linking it to our breath. Before linking them, we may try to imagine how vastly incomprehensible infinity is all on it's own, ie., imagining oneself travelling forever in a single direction of space. Now, in the case of this technique, we will use the concept of imagining oneself expanding and becoming infinitely larger as long as our breath in will last, and imagining oneself contracting and becoming infinitely smaller as long as our breath out will last. We will always build upon the point we had gotten to in our previous set of in-breaths and out-breaths, such that we will always perceive ourselves as having travelled further into macro or micro-scopia with each consecutive breath than the time before.
3) Actualization - Now that the technique is properly perceived and all variables have been set in favour of the attempt succeeding, we begin with a breath out, and a small-scale association to go with it. We will imagine that as we breathe out, we are shrinking down to the size of an atom, and we watch everything around us "zoom by" as we do so. We see ourselves as being a speck. This can be used as the "starting point" that we will never return to until just before the end of the technique. The breathing-micro/macroscopia association truly begins from this point on. At the first breath in, we will imagine ourselves growing from the point of being an atom all the way to encompassing this entire planet, solar system, or universe, depending on how far we can imagine ourselves expanding while we breathe in as much as we can, as slowly as we can. The next breathe out will bring us well past the atom we were starting out as, to a point where we can see that this atom in fact represents the "casing" of a universe one level "below" our own. We will zoom right past it to the point where what had seemed so small before now seems incredibly large, continuing on until we are out of breath. The next breath in will work the same way but in the opposite direction. We will zoom right past the brink of the universe to a point where it seems as an atom inside of another universe one level "up". The next set of breaths will bring us "two" levels down and up, then "three", and so on and so forth.
4) Metamorphosis - This final step, in a sense, "actualizes the actuality". It is crucial to perceive the "flip" points during this technique, where the very small suddenly seem very large and vice versa, because you must at some point remove the notion of zooming in or out X amount of levels, and simply zoom in and out as far as possible, always further, feeling the "flip" points as "ridges" as though you were sliding through a cylinder with performations, kind of like a cylindrical Ruffles Chip! These ridges will then begin to smoothen, as One and Infinity begin to collapse into one another, and by this point, if successful, you will surely not be feeling your physical body anymore. You are essentially engaging this technique to pull the "Two" (I have talked about this in other recent posts) back into "One", by making two Infinities into One Infinity, and it is by doing so that you can enter the Void, the source and destination of all reality, more easily this way than perhaps through some other techniques.
5) Id - If the metamorphosis is successful, your ego, now without anything to associate itself to, transforms into Id, and you can experience the subconscious bliss of total connectness with a kind of consciousness that will become less foggy and hazy with practise and experience. In this place, if one can maintain it, the source of what makes RV and RI work is contained, and it is here best we can see how seamless they are and how they can be combined.

This is going to be great fun to try and put in words. haha
Have had quite a few attempts at this meditation a while ago. The first two times when tried, i got to the motion of expanding out and in but then was that relaxed i fell asleep.
1)Start off in my room, curtains closed, no noise at all.
After taking 10 deep breaths i start the light breathing exercise where you breathe light through all the pores of your body. When energised and vibrating i move onto the next step. And after imagining the light breathing exercise, i clear my mind and relax for a moment or two.
2) This is when i picture myself lying on my bed and i expand my light body out to the size of one universe when i breathe in. I hold it there until i can fully picture myself expanding that large. (And then i count the number 1, in my head)
And then i breathe out imagining that my light body is contracting from the point where i had got to at the end of the universe and going past the point of where i first started at my original body into a tiny universe. I focus on it until i understand how much i have contracted the light body into such a tiny world. Once that is comprehended, at the end of breathing (I count the number 1 in my head)
(When breathing out and contracting your light body, you can focus on yourself and imagine yourself going deeper into a tiny atom on your body or you can choose a random object like a tree or leaf etc.)
3) Each time i breathed in i imagined expanding one more universe than before and when i breathed out i imagined contracting into one more universe than i did before. I repeated that process until i got up to the number 50. The zooming of going out and in made my body feel like there was so much motion. I got to the stage where i just had to trust myself that i was going one more universe each time i breathed in and out as it was hard to count when like that.
4) Then all of a sudden, i started picturing myself from a third person view the whole time from the top of the universe each time i expanded my light body, and it got me thinking. When i breathe in and expand the light body to the size of the universe, its exactly the same when i breath out and enter in the tiny universe, which is just as large. So i pictured the tiny universe i contracted into just as large as the the "Bigger universe" i expanded into.
5) Then while breathing in and out i got to a stage where this whole breathing technique was really seemed to be just a loop going over and over again. As i expanded out further i actually got closer to the smaller universe.. So i imagined that each time i breathed in and expanded my light body and because i imagined that the breathing was a loop that never ended, as i expanded my light body i imagined that i was expanding myself in the smaller universe as well. and that i was trying to catch up to the bigger universe light body.
6)Anyway when i came to this realisation i picture both light bodies, as i expanded out and when i expanded in, the both eventually met, and that’s when the motion feeling disappeared, i couldn’t move, i almost felt like i could fly out of my body..
I only stayed like this like this for a little while and then drifted off to sleep. I got out of that state because i thought i was completely paralysed and wanted to see if i could move my arm...nope, but then everything went back to normal. The feeling is incredible and plan to stay a lot longer next time.
I just have to think of the two light bodies joining together like that from expanding and contracting and can kind of feel myself already there to small degree when consciously aware.
___________________________________________
If there is anything anyone, doesn't understand or wishes to question, just ask, because I have written down a step by step guide on how to get to the void for my mates who found it very helpful. Eventually you will be able to live your perception from that point all the time instead of just when you meditate.
Would love to hear others experience with the technique.
Peace

I reccomend everyone interested in meditation try the Death Meditation from that site. I have ADD, and it's extremely hard for me to concentrate. I fell into the Death state after a moment, and the Non-existing state after 5 minutes. It felt so good.. Knowing that nothing matters, because you honestly believe you're dead and erased from the world.
The death meditation WAS quite relaxing, thank you for the recommendation.

This actually works! It's a tried-and-true sales training technique.
The closest I can get is feeling very relaxed, but the clearing-head-of-thoughts part just won't come naturally. There's always song lyrics running through my head. Or a thought creeps up. If I dismiss it, another one takes it's place. If I just try to concentrate on "not thinking", then I find myself sitting there contemplating why I can't not think.
It's really frustrating for someone who genuinely wants to learn how to meditate, but fails time and time again. Why can't I shut it all off?! I feel inept. http://www.totse.com/bbs/frown.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/frown.gif)

One thing that worked for me to clear my thoughts was this:
Next time you are walking around somewhere, just focus on just listening to the sounds around you. The cars, wind, all the ambient sound. If you focus just on the sound you will notice that it tends to stop the running processes and thoughts going on in your mind. You may even want to imagine a voice yelling "STOP!" and then focus on the listening.
Once I realized this worked, I could pretty much just sit still anywhere and clear my thoughts.

no no it isn't! That's the solution! It's the only way to go. I practise this too for my meditations (although for awhile I thought maybe I don't have to meditate so much anymore, I quickly remembered that we are all always forever on the journey, there's always deeper to go, there's always more intense of emotions to experience if I so desire), and it is amazing how long it took me to figure that out! I got so close and I would always get stuck thinking (really "telling" my brain) not to think about anything!
You can't get stuck saying to yourself "i have to stop thinking to myself to not think about anything because that's thinking about something!", you can only really say instead "hey, if i'm always telling myself not to think about anything constantly, it will become not thinking about anything.. they are going to collapse into each other!"
and that's the clincher... the meditations will start to skyrocket because for the first time, you will allow yourself to really and truly let go... It's amazing that something as small as "let go" or "letting go" or "just let yourself go" can mean sooooooo much more than those few characters in the words suggest!

Thanks for the Idea.
Here is a poem thought my be helpful.
The happiness within,
Makes you want to shout.
The vibrations of Joy,
You can't live without.
Marry it to your consciousness
This will make you not forget.
For if you do forget
You will remember it longer next time
Until it crystalises in your mind and then you are set.
Breathe in, Breathe out.
Sink to the basement of your reality
And search about.
How do you get there?
Relax and go deep.
It's the easist most natural thing to do
Just like when you sleep.
Use your imagination,
And create your very own crystaline structure.
This building is your mind and your levels of consciousness.
Picture yourself on top
And an escalator going down.
The journey your about to embark on,
Will make you do the opposite to frown.
Take ten deep breaths
Let your worries drift away.
Concentrate on your breathing
As it will show you the way.
So extremely relaxed
Getting deeper and Calm
Emotions are stronger
Knowledge & Senses expanded
More relaxed, no need for alarm
Why?
Because when you step up on your elevator
And ride the elevator down.
Eachtime you breathe
You go deeper down
Deeper into relaxation, into sleep,
Into the void.
From this point on you
Feel within yourself a sense of
intense joy and pleasure, sweeping your whole beings and it makes you want to smile at the world & especially yourself.
You feel an intense smile
orginating from your heart area.
This smile & joy is becoming a permanent part of you.
It radiates from your eyes.
It warms the heart of all individuals that get close to you.
They recognise your high vibrational joy. You radiate love from within and joy from within and the world then mirrors back to you that same love, that same joy.
Can you feel the energy people!

I do close my eyes, but have done it a couple of times without. Your image of reality gets blurred and has this ether quality to it. I looked at a clock and by the time the second hand went around once, the 1 minute felt like 1 hour. But that was after a sauna and relaxing in a aromatherapy room at the gym, so maybe the risen body temperature added to it?

This is the most useful thread in this forum, and the one of the most intellegent unbias I have seen since I have gotten here.
I myself find meditation to be a amazing thing to experiance. I let go of everything, I heal emotionally, think clearer, can recall distant memories, and can access certain subconcous thought processes. It really gives you control of your brain instead of outside stimuli, and its refreshing.
The best part is it is free of charge, allows you to choose your own "spiritual" path, doesn't directly profit other people, and is very benificial to the mind and body.
If you have any other techniques, maybe some that increase brain wave speed (Gamma) to promote faster thought, I would be very interested.
Thanks for the great information and feel free to post more.
I would like to add there is a free computer program called gnaural that uses binerial beats to alter brain waves. Several people, myself included, have used it with success.

Thanks for the Idea.
Here is a poem thought my be helpful.
The happiness within,
Makes you want to shout.
The vibrations of Joy,
You can't live without.
Marry it to your consciousness
This will make you not forget.
For if you do forget
You will remember it longer next time
Until it crystalises in your mind and then you are set.
Breathe in, Breathe out.
Sink to the basement of your reality
And search about.
How do you get there?
Relax and go deep.
It's the easist most natural thing to do
Just like when you sleep.
Use your imagination,
And create your very own crystaline structure.
This building is your mind and your levels of consciousness.
Picture yourself on top
And an escalator going down.
The journey your about to embark on,
Will make you do the opposite to frown.
Take ten deep breaths
Let your worries drift away.
Concentrate on your breathing
As it will show you the way.
So extremely relaxed
Getting deeper and Calm
Emotions are stronger
Knowledge & Senses expanded
More relaxed, no need for alarm
Why?
Because when you step up on your elevator
And ride the elevator down.
Eachtime you breathe
You go deeper down
Deeper into relaxation, into sleep,
Into the void.
From this point on you
Feel within yourself a sense of
intense joy and pleasure, sweeping your whole beings and it makes you want to smile at the world & especially yourself.
You feel an intense smile
orginating from your heart area.
This smile & joy is becoming a permanent part of you.
It radiates from your eyes.
It warms the heart of all individuals that get close to you.
They recognise your high vibrational joy. You radiate love from within and joy from within and the world then mirrors back to you that same love, that same joy.
Can you feel the energy people!
What a crocka horse shit...

This, I can dig.
It sounds both promising and applicable. The most attractive feature is that it's drug-free, magic-free and doesn't require a basis of faith in order to work.

Absolutely love the hemi-sync meditations. I usually keep my cd of waves on loop during the night that have theta and delta beats incorporated from them.
There is as a lot of research out there to do, we should try to refine all the information and make the knowledge accessible for everyone.

Aft3r Image, Thanks for the links. Very very helpful. I will add some of mine a little later.
Xerxes89: Yes leave the CD on loop the whole night, as you seem to get more "delta" sleep therefore not feeling as tired in the morning, plus the dreams you get are out of this world. The "beats" are great for those who can't get to sleep and are used as a tool for deep relaxation.

CONNECTED BREATHING FOR INCREASED ENERGY
The purpose of conscious, connected breathing is not for the movement of air, but rather for the movement of energy. By doing relaxed, connected breathing for a few minutes, you begin to experience dynamic energy flowing throughout your body. The more you practice it, the more relaxed and peaceful you feel. In Eastern philosophies, this flowing of energy via conscious, connected breathing is the merging of spirit and matter. It creates harmony between your body, mind and soul.
Breathing is such a simple thing, but conscious breathing involves activating the upper cotical brain cells. If you inhale and hold your breath to lift a weight, you maintain control until the breath is released. Normally you involuntarily breathe 14 to 18 times a minute. The more excitable you are, the more breaths per minute you take. When you're reading a book, you breathe differently than when you're making love. Different activities and mental states require different modes of breathing. Gradual oxygen deprivation and in turn cause mental and physical impairment.
The amount of air you inspire is known as your vital capacity and can be measured by a watch-size instrument called a spirometer. To test your expiration capacity, take a deep breath, open your mouth wide (no pursed lips) and see if you can blow out a match 3 inches from your lips. If you can, you need help.
To illustrate how you can voluntarily control your breathing, take a deep, abdominal breath and read the following paragraph loud without inhaling.
"Powerful effects can be felt by controlling your inhalation and exhalation in a connected way. By gently, but deeply breathing in and out without a pause in between, you can supercharge your system with energizing oxygen. Maintain this connected breathing in a relaxed rhythm, (don't force yourself into hyperventilating syndrome) for an hour a day for 30 consecutive days, and you will feel far more able to successfully accomplish many of the other exercises in this manual. Your stress and negative emotions will dissipate too. There is a merging of your pure life energy with the air you breathe that will send vibrations throughout your body in a cleansing nourishing way. By controlling your breath in this way, you can physcially extend your life."
Connected breathing is a relaxing and natural process that can leave you with a euphoric feeling. It is a very cleansing process that can also clear out physical, mental and emotional bloacks. About 3% of the body's wastes are eliminated by decation and 7% urination. The skin excretes another 20%, leaving the remaining 70% to be breathed out.
Maintaining a connected deep breathing for about an hour can also slip you into an altered state of consciousness where old images and feelings come to mind. These patterns can be consciously observed, and allowed to pass on without their having any psychological effect on you!
As an adjunct to the above exercise, take a deep, abdominal breath and hold it. Now stick your tongue out and bring the air up as if to exhale, but instead put a throat lock on it and gag. The gagging noise isn't necessary, but directing the air and "life energy" to your brain and eyes is important.
This exercise was taken from 100% brain power course.
More exercises to come.

CONCENTRATION FOR BETTER FOCUS!
_____________________________________________
Before going to sleep, try counting backwards from 100 to 1 by projecting an imaginary white numeral onto a blackboard in your mind and see how far you get before an interrupting though invades the process. Eventually you will be able to do it easily.
Next, recite mentally all the multiplication tables. Go over each product taking one number at a time and recite its product. One times one is one through to one times nine. Then two times one through two times nine, etc. See if you can go through the entire multiplication table without having your mind wader off. The progress you make can easily marked by where you strayed off in the multiplication table.

CONCENTRATION ON EMPTINESS
____________________________________________
Sit in a comfortable position and relax with your eyes closed for a few moments. Now just observed your thoughts creeping into your consciousness, each one clamoring for attention--daily events, emotional problems, future desires, etc. Now imagine you are in a completely dark room with a alarge picture window covered by a black blind. There is no pattern to the blind. It is just black. Concentrate now on that blind without allowing any distracting thoughts to intrude. If they do, push them back out of the way. Simply continue to concentrate on the black blind.
When you can hold an expression of complete blankness for just a short time, you will begin to have a different perspective, where time and distance take on a new meaning. Continued practice gives you better and better control over the sundry idle thoughts constantly during your daily life, your're one giant step further on your ladder of progressive development. If it helps, imagine that you are a yogi or a lama that already has this power heightened to a fine tuned degree.

MEDITATION FOR BEGINNERS
After mastering the concentration exercises and gaining control over your attention, you are ready for meditation. There is a contemplative stage between pure concentration and deep meditation that you might experience. It isn't necessarily detrimental, but it is the point where you can hallucinate and relate what you think are mystical experiences. You should be very wary of visions encountered while attempting meditation. You could easily fooled with false notions from this curious limbo region between hypnosis and meditation. Just observe, proceed and experience any visions encountered, without judgement.
Actual attainment of meditation occurs when you are able to focus entirely on one item, and then remove the item from your mind and become attuned with the universe. It's not making the mind go blank, but allowing it to go empty that creates this experience. Then you feel like you become one with everything and in control of your total being. In one way or another, you spend your entire life trying to find this web of kinship which joins you to all living things and to Universla Love. Finding it, you realise then that the Kingdom of Heaven is truely within you.
Meditation is an upper brain exercise that allows a person to experience the exalted high emotional feelings to long sought after -sselfless love, compassion, happiness, bliss etc. After getting accomplished at experiencing these feelings, the adept can consciously recreate these emotions in his everyday life even without a formal meditative rapport.
For beginning meditators, the simple exercise of observing and attending to your breathing is a good one. Choose a quite place and assume a comfortable position in a chair or bed with your spine erect. Relax, close your eyes and bring your conscious awareness to the rhythm of your breathing. Say to yourself:
"I am mindfully aware of breathing in," and then "I am mindfully aware of breathing out"
You don't even have to recite the whole sentence. Just say "breathing in" and "breathing out" to keep your mind on your breath. Notice the rising and falling of your abdomen as you breathe.
Let your body become still while you inhale steadily and slowly. Feel the flow of your breathing. Notice how each breath clenses and nourishes you. As thoughts intrude upon your consciousness, allow them to come and go without giving them further energy. Just witness the thoughts and bring your wareness back to your breathing. As you practice, you will gradually start to detach from these thoughts and cease your background dialogue. Recognise the changing flow of emotion in you, but don't try to modify your feelings. Know that whatever you may feel is part of your flow of experience, and not a permanent state of your personality. Gently move back to following the movement of your breath.
Keep this thought in mind as you meditate:
"I am in ONEness with everything"
Realise the truth of this statement, and open yourself to it, but do not consider that by thinking it you are accomplishing anything. After a while, this thought will be in the background of your experience without actually articulating it very often. The length of time you meditate in the beginning can be as brief as 5 minutes several times a day, but gradually you will find yourself extending the time to 30-60 mins in one sitting as you discover the inherent benefits.
There is also the mediation on a sound that you generate called a mantra. Some basic matras are:
Ram, Lam, Ham, Yam, Aum, or Omm.
After choosing a matra sound, resonate your mantra with utmost concentration in rapid repetitions for as long as one breath will allow. THe resulting sound vibration sets up wave patterns throughout your cellular tissues that stimulate and harmonize your whole body. You can also reiterate your mantra mentally in the same repetitvie way during each exhalation. This is good during during potentially stressful moments throughout the day. After a while, you'll find it will reverberate on its own in your mind without a conscious effort to repeat it.
Devotees to transcendental meditation have displayed increased alpha and theta waves as well as a decreased blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen consumption. Correspondingly, this also promoted better relaxation and reduced anxiety during their normal day.
Another meditation exercise if focusing your attention on the inner sound in your ears. You can perceive this subtle sound in the quiet of your own home. Sufferers of tinnitus hear this inner sound in their ears (generated from the cochlea of the inner ear) as a loud pathological noise. You can also meditate on the inner light in your head by closing and raising your eyes to concentrate on the 'third eye' point in back of the bridge of your nose. (Like when used in self-hypnosis, this physiologically enhances an altered state of awareness). When you do this, you'll begin to see a speck of illumination. As concentration continues, the point of light expands gradually into your whole field of vision. Then veil after weil of vibrational light reveals iteself until finally spiritual vision is achieved. Some meditators initiate the process of seeing the light by imagining it at first of by gently pinching their closed eyelids and producing a phosphene effoect.
Buddhist meditation involves 4 primary posture positions-- standing, walking, sitting and lying down. In each posture, you become mindful about what you are doing as you are doing it. For instance, with your eyes closed, bring your awareness to the act of standing and reiterate internally "standing, standing, standing" over and over to yourself as you stand quitely with your hands in front of you. When doing the walking meditation, walk very slowly foward and say, "left..Foot..touch", then "right..Foot..Touch" etc. Then turn around slowly and say, "Turning, turning, turning" etc By being mindful of each step in the process, your focus is brought totally to what you are doing as you are doing it. The same procedure is followed with the sitting and lying down postures, and for all other daily acts--eating, driving, working etc. By becoming as consious as possible throughout your day, you achieve the meditative purpose and all its benefits.
In fact, it has been shown that crime is sharply reducing in the immediate vicinity of a group of consistent mediators. Beneficial health effects are also prevalent amongst meditators, especially in the relief of stress and its corresponding related diseases. like all skills, meditation takes practice to derive its ultimate benefits. The more you practice it, the better you get at it. Even beginning meditators will benefit though from a growing peace, calmness and relaxation within their inner being.
When you realise that nothing is outside and everything is within yourself, then you can transcend the limitations of space and time. This is the Self realization that the eastern philosophies speak about. This is when there is no difference between the knower, knowldge and known or between the future, past and present--the eternal "Now."

We are talking about techniques, you are talking about experiences. That right there is the difference.
Everyones experiences are different, yet techniques are used to get the most out of the experience.
It is like teaching art/drawing, everyone perceives the image of a tree different in their head. Yet the techniques used in how to draw the tree helps express and ultilise the final picture which was drawn during the "experience" of it all. Therefore the techniques used maximises the final output.
But I do agree with you, there is no one way to meditate, each to his own and finding answers within.
Would love to hear from you if you have anything to add to what you said to help others understand what you mean.

You can alter brain waves without this, drugs is one way. The other way is during meditation, imagine yourself in a lift going down. And count backwards from 200. And imagine seeing the levels in the lift go down as you count backwards.
Do that a few times, then imagine your body being a sponge and breathing air or "light" through all the pores of your body. And that should lower it considerably.
Let me know how it goes.

By the way this is the fun part now. When you feel you are deeply relaxed after about 30 mins of the exercises used. Say you are using the "lift" exercise to lower your brain levels..
Take Note Of the EXACT feeling you have after 30 mins or so.
You would most likely be in theta brain waves.
Then tell yourself:
"This feeling I now have has become a permanent part of my being. I can easily get myself into this state, during my waking day by repeating the words-
"Mind Level Theta" 3 times in a row..
Once that is done, awaken from your session fresh and full of energy. Then try to practice it a little later in the day when your brain is out of theta level..
When you say to yourself: "Mind Level Theta"
"Mind Level Theta" "Mind Level Theta"
Automatically feel your brain think of yourself go down that "lift" until you are at the point of theta.
BY DOING THAT NOW YOU ARE ABLE TO FEEL THE WAY YOU DID IN YOUR MEDITATION SESSION ANYTIME DURING THE DAY, WHENEVER YOU PLEASE, WITH A FEW PRACTICES OF THAT TECHNIQUE!!!!
Also while meditating once at the point of where theta is on the lift even if you are awake or eyes closed, imagine getting off the "lift" and start exploring your building.
Once at the floor of Theta, imagine walking into a television store in your building and finding a TV that holds past and future events that are going to take place in your life.
Think of a time 1 week 1 year, 5 10 years and watch it on the TV..
Quite fun to do. If it is a future you desire or not desire, don't take it too seriously as it is only a "probable future" depending on what choices you take in life to reach it.

Yeah, did it feel like a tingle through every pore of your body? After getting into a rhythmatic breathing cycle for 5-10 mins, I often start to feel very awake and conscious. Like increased senses for a moment.
no i only felt something primarily around my head. maybe i had increased focus, it would make sense.
