I could easily buy into this

The concept of hell is such a backwards incentive for living a good life.

If you're only being a good person because you're shit scared that if you don't you will burn in eternal hellfire when you die, it's not an honest desire to do good, it's blackmail.

Though it is arguable the it's the actions that count rather than the thought behind them.

I believe hell could exist but not as xians see it.

I think hell would be a feeling of utter confusion and terror of every passing moment. And if it exists then it might be due to what your mind thinks as you die.

Wow, you really read my mind there. When I was a child, hell to me meant fear and ignorance. People should be good (and I use that term loosely) for the sake of goodness, not under the threat of eternal hellfire.

Imagine Hell as a dimension full of hate, fear and evil. If your soul wants to go to higher dimensions, you will have to go past Hell. If your soul is evil i.e. full of negative energy, you will be trapped in hell untill you learn to release the evil. It will become very hard if it becomes part of you.
