Was Satan a bad guy? I remember reading somewhere, maybe on here, a theory that Satan didn’t like how God was doing things, so he attempted to take over and God, not liking this, cast him into hell and then created propaganda, proclaiming that Satan is the cause of all evil and not to trust Satan cause he is pure evil.
Wouldn’t it be funny if this was true and that everyone who went to hell learnt this?
Anyways, was Satan a bad guy or did he just want more than he had?

Satan is fiction. Either that or he is real and has convinced us he is fiction, in which case he is probably evil, for the best way for evil to prevail is to pretend it is good.
If he is real, he is not "pure evil". Pure evil is a myth, as everything and everyone has the love of God within, and that includes Satan. Evil occurs when you ignore that love and decide that it means nothing to you.
So, is Satan a good guy? Not really, as he shunned God's love and decided it was not important. However, God still loves him, I believe. It's just that he will never love God back.
Satan!
In some Jewish Mythology he is not completely a bad guy but rather has an agreement to tempt and test people for God. In Other portions of Jewish Mythology, various different Gods and Kings were misinterpreted by Christian Monks translating it as Satan, such as the Babylonian King Lucifer (Light Bearer or Morning Star) and the Middle Eastern God Azazel.
In some Christian Mythology he is the architect of evil and is at war with God for the souls of the humans. He wants everyone to burn in his kingdom of hell. He is quite powerful in the presence of those who are without God.
In Islam he isn't an ArchAngel like in the prior two religions but rather a Djinn (a being of smokeless fire, energy) which is not at war with God but rather at war with life on Earth and Human kind. His motivation is to mislead and corrupt but he has no power over people save the power to suggest. Satan is also not alone as there can be "Satans" as in people who mislead. Satans name in the Qur'an is Iblis and Iblis might not be the same reference as Shaitan. Shaitan can also be thought of as a metaphor for pride and anger, which is what the word is thought to mean by some (Born out of Anger). If the word Shaitan is replaced with pride (which it is repeated over and over is the quality of Iblis) it might be better understood. There is not Dualism in Islam and Satan is not thought of as much of a power, nor the architect of evil, God being the manifestor of everything.
Satan type beings make their appearance throughout history and in various other religions ranging from Zoroastrianism to Manichaeism and the beliefs of ancient China.
In Zoroastrianism Satan appears as a massive serpent dragon whom is in constant battle with the "Wise Lord" Ahuramazda, God. The Satan Dualism only appears after the introduction of the second book to Zoroastrianism and the death of Zoroaster.

The way I always think of Satan is as a metaphor for human imperfection. Satan is, in that sense, not a "guy" at all, but rather a sort of variable in the collective human psyche. Without him, we'd all be good little boring Christians, so I say fuck that. Christians have a tendency to take things way too seriously, and way too literally.

"2.MY PHILOSOPHY!
Ok next...Whats my philosophy? Ok I'll tell you... What is God?: God is not a man or a woman or a thing created, God is infinite, we are all within it, nothing is without it, it encompases all realities, everything. What is God if its not some old dude sitting in the sky? God is "The" Reality! Everything is part of it, within it, and nothing is seperate from it. We see God all the time, feel God, Experience God...How? We are living God, In God, Part of God, Surrounding us! Ain't that shnazzy? BOOM!
3.THE DEBIL PRIDE!
What is Hu-Man's worst Enemy?!: Well, The Debil!? Well some people call it that, but its not really some dude with horns...its "Pride". I mean Pride in a bad way, not self respect, self respect is a good thing, but Pride, Pride is the "I am" That seperates a person from Everything Else "From Reality". Its the "Why did this have to happen to ME!" or the "They made ME feel pain, now I'll make them feel pain worse!" or the "How could they say that to me!" or "I'm better than them!" (How can you be better than anything we are all part of the same thing, with our individual functions!) "I know more than him" (He knows what he knows, you know what you know, share baby!)
So how do we defeat this son of a bitch that causes all anger, regret, sadness, arrogance, evile!, revenge, negative feelings?! Well easy! Humility, Humbleness...What is that? A humble person never even says "I am Humble" or "I am not proud" It's a person who is forever learning the lesson of acceptance, openess, peace, they are one with Reality...One with everything, they realise they have a function just like everything else, good and bad, and they are part of the puzzle, just a piece, like the flowas and the trees, and the birds and the bees! hahahaha, Pride is sneaky, makes many appearances, comes from all angles, has many disguises, such as self righteousness, Know it all ism, EVEN LOVE?!
Love? Yeah love, because people invest "pride" into people and things they love, so when those things are hurt or destroyed or insulted, those people go berserk like wild ninjas on cocain! Yep...it's a naughty little thing...but a humble person has time to be reasonable, hear all sides of all stories, they listen without cutting people short just because they think they are better, in fact they dont think they are better, they know they have a function just like the other person. They are cool people...Humbleness rocks! Pain tries to teach humility sometimes too!
4.EVERYTHING HAS A FUNCTION!
Alrighty, next on the list...We make choices, but everything that happens has a function that leads to results and more functions, a never ending chain reaction, and its only pride that makes us regret and not see the good things in the chain or the blocks, how they wouldnt pile up the same or at all if one block in the past is removed. FROM EVERYTHING COMES GOOD EVENTUALLY...
Even a murder, though its initially bad, bad for the person who does it (he probably did it out of pride) woah I farted just now, that rocked...Yeah but it still leads to good, those little decomposer dudes got food, it must have led to a million lessons, a million different good events, people changing their ways, noticing something, reading about it, blah blah blah, anyway, nothing goes to waste, good or bad...so be easy kids! and be Good, because in the first place its Good to be Good, Bad to Be Bad, for the bad person, but thats about it! Everything can be shown in a positive light...
5.WHAT IS WORSHIP!?
Worship is submission, submission to THE REALITY, Bowing down, literally, sometimes metaphorically, to The Reality (God) We exist within it, part of it, all that jazz! WE fall down prostrate ourselves to the ultimateness of the powerfulness and the coolness that is God/Reality hahah it kicks ass!"

Satan does not exist, it's a form created by jews and christians to de-humanize the humanity, this by depriving us from our passions. Christianity is bulsshit.

i didnt read this whole thread....
but some of ppl say that hell is as much satans punishment as anyones.
however, satan is not a nice guy. 'taking over' might sound cool to the young and ignorant but think about what he was really doing. he was trying to usurp god and goodness so he could be on top, just for the sake of being top dog.

Is that what he was doing? I don't think Satan could possibly be stupid enough to think God is a thing that can be topped, rather I find that he was pissed and jealous of humans so he wanted to dedicate his life to making them "Fuck ups" by suggesting stupid things and suggesting those things are smart and cool and that there will be no consequences, though I do believe humans are more an enemy to themselves than Satan, he can't be blamed really for anything, just a big talker, I dont believe he can posess or force anyone to do anything, he is made of pride and he plays on the pride of those without understanding.

Satan is a symbol of questioning authority, and his punishment an example of why good boys and girls shouldn't do that.

He wanted more than what he had. Satan was the cause of th fall. After he fell the other angels followed in his pah. And the fall was angels making themselves flesh and copulating with the daughters of man.
They had children (the demons/the nephalim) whom messed up Gods' plan (whatever they are) and caused havoc on the earth. So God punished the fallen angels by sending them to some sort of hell which was basically an abyss so that they could never see their wives or children nor know their fates.
These angels were eventually released obviousaly, after the flodd and deaths of their wives and children, because they appeared in several stories. For instance, Satan in Job.

I don't believe angels are capable of disobeying God.

Satan was an idea conceived thousands of years ago and portrayed as a vile being that is the root of all evils. I beg to differ. I believe that Satan doen't exist as he is often portrayed.
I believe that he is simply a focus point for that is seen as evil or immoral (albiet evil or immpral as seen by the ruling religion). Therefore Satan HAS to be bad, as he is the incarnation of humanities "imperfections"
If that made sense.

Satan means "Adversary", and "Accuser". He is the prince of angels, once second to only God, and one of his original names from which Satan or "The" satan was derived is, Satanial (spelled many different ways).
He was "opposing 'someone' or 'something' long before there were ever churches.....

The only time Lucifer disobeyed God was when he refused to love the humans God created. Lucifer loved God so much that he couldn't care less about the humans, and that's why God cast him out, because he didn't want an angel that didn't care about his greatest creation.
Now I don't remember what the source for this was but I remember thinking it was quite credible when I first read it. Basically the point was that Lucifer was cast out for loving God too much...so take that as a lesson.

in the Hebrew Bible, Lucifer was the title of a Babylonian King, meaning Light Bearer or Morning Star.

Satan and Lucifer ARE NOT the same beings. LUCIFER is the Light Bearer, or Bringer of light. The morning Star, whose very name means Bright and Shinging One. Derived from the words lux and ferre, or Luciferous.
Lux meaning, light, and ferre meaning, "to bring" or "to bear".
Lucifer was a CHERUB (Cherubim) while Satan was more closely a Seraph (or Seraphim). But he was actually older than even that rank, he was originally a Watcher, an order with many names one being the Grigori, or Bene Ba Elohim (Sons of God(s)).
Satan's crime was falling FOR humanity, so much so that he corporalates and copulates with them. Causing other angels to follow in his foot-steps.
While Lucifer's crime, as someone has alredy pointed out (AyKay_47), was his jealousy/hatred for humanity, he disobeys God by not honoring His work in creating humanity.
One Loved humans (a bit too much), One despised the very existance of humans..... a CLEAR distinction.

Actually i believe that satan was simply doing to god what god was doing to humanity.
