It's nothing particularly special.

I don't see why people don't just respect nature and light candles without calling it a religion. We've got enough bloody religions as it is.

Whatever people see in a religion does'nt concern what you think.

Houseviews?? Don't you mean housewives? Just a little info though. The current "WICCAN" religion is based upon much older pagan beliefs than go back further than christianity.

Lame is but a point of view. http://www.totse.com/bbs/wink.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/wink.gif)

Please do not confuse other forms of paganism/witchcraft with wicca. Wicca is like the watered down wine your folks use to give you at thanksgiving when you were little. Not enough alcohol to get you drunk but just enough to get the flavor. Thats what wicca is just enough to give you an idea of what the older deeper mysteries of witchcraft truly offer. Those who practise wicca either go on to more evolved forms or drop it and go to other religons.

Good answer.

In my experience, the most highly evolved end result is some sort of gnosticism.

If i've offended anyone on thisthread then i apologize it's just that i have a few wiccan friends and everytime i get into a religous debate with them it ends up with them spouting crap about their faiths(More of a fad to be honest) and saying that mine is ludicrous while they worship beings that claim to circle the planet as a giant bird/snake(Norse-interesting but stupid) or Zombie inducing beings(Baron Samedi)

Ha. Christiand built there churches in my city on the places of old pagan shrines, and it does not make them pagans.

Dig deeper and you'll see Wicca is lame fusion of old beliefs and occult sciences prepared for the mob.

Interesting take.

For what it's worth, I got into a theological argument with someone who claimed to be a wiccan the other day. She never did quite explain to me what being wiccan entailed, and she did an awful lot of christian-esque rambling about virtues and god and heaven and suchlike and flat out admitted to being a monotheist. It seemed to conflict with her proclaimed religion.

Everybody I've ever heard explain wicca to me has come up with a completely different answer. If it was always that way I cannot be certain but I strongly suspect that wicca is just a different word for trendy new-age bullshit that people make up or engage in to try to be different.

I always considered Wicca to be more of a Pagan path than a religion in itself...

"wicca is the religion of fat lezbians"

-Adam Corolla

Yeah, its dumb, and "silly". More "silly" than other religions. Dumber than religions people kill for? Or at least knock on my fucking door on a saturday morning and give me the urge to walk them into the next room over and point out the naked sleeping 20-somthing year old blond on my bed and ask them if I'm worth their time to try and pry me away from my lifestyle.

Wicca is a broad and open belief system which is basically people who perform spells and "magick" and observe in some cases their ideas about pre christian "pagan" traditions.

I don't find that it is so silly to use the mind through "magick" to create positive personal results. Spells, Prayers, all that hokey smokey stuff can be used effectively to focus one's own mental energy and through the power of belief and positive thinking, hopefully attain what they want or better themselves.

Some Wiccans make appeal to certain Gods for certain things but it is mostly accepted that all the Gods are simply aspects or representations of the one "Source".

This is somewhat similar to the Hindu belief in the Brahman of which all Gods and Godesses are simply aspects and representations of, while the Brahman is the absolute, infinite, reality and force.

Later the Brahman was made more acessible to people as Brahma the creator God and ruler of the Universe who later began to share his position with two other Gods creating a Trinity.
