all religion is acutally a defence mechanism for humans to cope with what they lacked, if they lacked or were threated they would create a god or gods who would protect them so they werent afraid to do anything

Religion is also used as a common set of laws. Thou shall not kill is not actually one of the first 10, its something like 643 or something(oh yeah, there was more than 10 laws)
