Im sure this topic has been done over and over again in the past so here goes.
I am an atheist and im just wondering why it is the god from the bible is a hypocrit. He says you shouldnt kill people and get jealous and all that other bullshit yet god, according to the old testament, kills people or at least orders his people to kill people and gets jealous. The bible contradicts itself throughout the whole thing. I just dont understand.

My answer is that the god described in the Bible is a gross twist.
They imbued God with emotions, choices, and other things as a way of characterizing Him. Instead of leaving it an all-encompassing shine that contained the Plan, and "angels," higher consciousness beings that had access to this, God became a "male" figure, someone who's constantly watching, intervening, judging, and choosing, when in fact, It (not He) is not.

From what I know, the Bible isn't exactly what God has said. And the Bible has been changed through time, it no longer exists in its original language. So how can you put trust into such a book?

Well, when I read the Bible, I can tell for the most part, the ideas are right, but the images and connotations one might get are different.
Take for example the creation of the heavens and earth. In my mind, I see that as the creation of the physical and nonphysical realms, and the firmament separating the two is the "border," which may be contained in the electrical processes of the brain, and the fact that it's your body that's acting as a tether to this world. When you die, you go to the heavens.

When God hates the exact same people you do, you will know you have made him in your image.
The people of those times hated lots of other religious groups and so they made up stories about their God killing them. This is no new thing. All the cultures of the ancient world had stories like this.
Christians are really good at looking past these things though, and you never hear it brought up in church.
God would be a hypocrite and an asshole if the bible were true, but thankfully it is not. Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Mormonism, all religions just stem from stories people told. It astounds me that they are still around today.
