View Full Version : If you knew for certain that there was no God
would you live your live any differently? Just wondering...
Never mind I missed that whole "No" part
Yea my life would be no different.

I live my life as I like already, as if there is no God. I don't kill/violate people because I think it's unethical, not because I'm worried about eternal damnation.

No.
Even if there was absolute, solid, hard evidence that there was no God (though this question really depends on your definition of God), you know that someone, somewhere, would still believe in the big beardy git.

i doubt it. as is, i don't pray. i follow my own path. i.e. i ignore most of the 10 commandments. officially, i haven't broken... two of 'em. and i doubt by the end of my life there will be any. maybe one. anyway, i already live as if there's no god. i stopped caring if there was long ago.

I may be the first to say that my life would be changed.
I'd feel spiteful that what i was told was a lie. I'd have no God, or morals to follow to not feel spiteful.
Nah i'd like to try and stay moral but i'd find my life pretty empty and pointless and a bit cold.

Im an atheist and therefore i live my life as if there is no god. i am ruled by my own concience and the fact that i know if i do something there will be consequences, good or bad.

I'd still live the same. I try to be good person because life is so much smoother that way.

I don't think there would be much change, I'd still be inspired by science, by reading, and many many other things. For a period of time I decided god could not exist 100%, of course later I rethought this but it did make me think.
I relized there was actually less stress in my life, and I was more concerned about the people around me than myself. Weird how losing your faith could bring those things into your life. The cold feeling so many people fear goes away when you live life to the fullest. Morally havn't changed a much.
I now enjoy exploring buddhist and zen teachings, which I find much more spiritual than modern christianity.
If anything I gained an open-mindedness I wouldn't have otherwise.
I don't believe in a personal god though. Many people involved in science share this view and wether or not god exists becomes almost irrelevant, still interesting to think about, hence this thread.

I'm an athiest. But I stay open minded. I think being an athiest gives you more freedom than having a religion. Like because I know that I only have this life to live and when I die thats it, I live my life to the fullest and do what makes me happy because if you work some job that you hate, or dont like where you are in your life, just change it. People who just try to make it through the day are people who are just waiting to die so they can enjoy the splendors of heaven. And I don't think thats how life should be lived.

I beleive there is a god, but I will never follow an organized religion ever again due to the fact that it is so easily corruptible and subject to changes in interpretation and meaning.
If I had 100% evidence no such deity existed...I would go on in the same manner I do now. (which is sorta bad or good given your opinion) http://www.totse.com/bbs/biggrin.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/biggrin.gif)

As long as I exist how can I know for sure that I don't, even if I didn't I couldn't!

For as long as you can feel, how is it that there is no God? If your definition can be destroyed it is not God.
I'd live the same way I do now.
I'm an agnostic right now, I'd love if I found out there was no God, I could get rid of that shred of doubt that keeps me from making the transition from an agnostic to an athiest.

Not really.
Morals would still exist if God didn't decide what's right and wrong.
No, I would live just the same. While I am not certain that there is no "god", I am pretty certain that he doesn't really give a fuck what individuals do in their lifetime, so his existense is of no importance as a mortal, only when you die.

I believe if God "didn't give a fuck" nothing would move.

So if there was no God to keep you in line you would be moralless? So you aren't really a good person you just suck up to the boss so that you don't go to hell. That's basically what they're saying if they would not have any morals if there weren't a God then they really have no morals now, just a deep fear of hell. Interesting...

To the OP:
If I knew there was a God?
I wouldn't alter my life unless I knew what kind of god this was, and what he stood for (if anything).
i'd still be a buddhist
me too :) thats run by morals and being good and whatnot without a fear of being eternally damned.
but by my thinkings, there is always the law to keep in mind, just because you wont go to hell doesnt mean you wont go to jail in the life that you are living so not many people would completely throw out all their morals

would you live your live any differently? Just wondering...
No, sir. I would not live my life any differently.
There's no point to change. I doubt that the absence of God will make anyone act any differently (since we are all pretty bound by our own personal morals).
I have a feeling that you posted this due to morals, but that may just be me (remember: the absence of god is not the absence of morals).
