I think I've figured out a way to induce a horible meditative experience, consciously, similar to what one may associate to Biblical Hell.

And I'm willing to have a cogent discussion with you guys.

My idea:

Begin some sort of meditative technique (perhaps some of you have a good techniques?)

And simply concentrate on what you despise, fear, and hate. It may be eery to confront what you fear, but then just keep infuencing your own hellish thoughts.

This is very, very loose, but let's all contribute to one good way.

Discuss?

I don't see any reason anyone would want to put themselves through that, considering is would be a destructive experiance contrary to the goal of meditation, to be a constructive experiment.

Would it work though? Maybe, it would be interesting to see if you actually get over what you fear/hate/despise, but I don't think that would happen, and if nothing happens that type of meditation is useless for anything other than inducing pain upon one's self.

sounds kind of like a shamanistic death/rebirth thing.

better to silence your mind.

this is really pd material.

Yeah, I believe it's kind of scratching the surface of that (death/rebirth)

Silencing the mind probibly would be more preferable, but there are some benifits to what Leaf is saying now that I think about it.

Specifically the fear part, one could confront their fears and defeat them thus coming out a stronger person. At least in theory.

That won't be hell exactly, in fact it might help in desensitization so that those nasty thoughts don't bother you anymore after a while.

Hell would be setting yourself on fire, but the pain doesn't last in the way hell's pain does because you keep getting fresh skins to burn!

if hell is fire, then why is hell completely dark? fire gives off light, right?

I've found that thinking about my fears and confronting them helps me deal with them.

That said, I'm not sure a true 'meditative' experience could involve such a thing.
