They condemn what they do not understand. LaVeyian Satanism doesn't believe in any supernatural being, they believe in Individualism and in a way tolerance. They are other braches of Satanism that do believe in Satan, however they are basically at the minority and just your local losers. Read "The Satanic Bible" to learn more.

Suggest she reads a few chapters of the Satanic Bible. I like quite a lot of what Anton Lavey has to say, but as a person I don't like him. I don't like the idea of the rituals either.

It's not worshipping satan, it sort of suggests the word satan represents things within us all. Things that Christians have condemned.

I think your mother is mostly right. It's just stupid, and attracts pseudo-intellectuals who want to look cool, dark, and/or free-thinking.

I find it funny that Satanism is strongly against stupidity, yet it attracts more stupid teenagers than anybody else.
