View Full Version : Praeternatural Abilities!

I just made a short list of infamous abilities, more or less looked down upon by the rest of humanity just because it's not too common:

Hypnosis: psychological condition of being able to be influenced positively or negatively depending on the will of the hypnotist. Could be used to make the hypnotised victim believe in hallucinations engineered by the hypnotist.

Lucid dreaming: What's real? Waking life or cloudy dream? You really can't tell, and that's why lucid dreaming is so cool. Again, a psychological condition where the dreamer tells himself that he or she is able to consciously realize that he or she is really dreaming, which in turn allows you to control, to a certain degree, the dream.

Can anyone name a few others that I've left out, that are scientifically proven, more or less, but not fully understood/not appreciated by people?

I hope somebody else does the correcting soon. I'm too tired to fight ignorance right now.

I'm terribly sorry for having ruined your day by misspelling a word in a joke post! Keep up the good fight against ignorance; we all know how misspelling a word is really indicative of that!

Rust, you misunderstood me. What I meant was, that I wasn't going to be part of the incoming posts regarding the OP.

Hmm, are the things that I wrote about hypnosis & lucid dreaming not true?

I won't pretend to know more than somebody on the subject.

Perhaps someone could write somehting constructive, huh?

I'm 95% sure they're both true.

As for telekenisis, telepathy, psychics, astral projection, psi balls and spinning bird kicks, I don't really know.

Edit: But there are exlanations as to how each works, I've just not experienced them myself.

Hypnotism isn't really real. the person knows what they are doing, it only works if they are willing to follow along with what the hypnotist says.

Graemy:

You wouldn't consider, for example, being able to convince someone, i.e. having very good powers of persuasion a kind of hypnotism?

well no because it isn't really up to the hypnotist, it is up to the person being hypnotised, if they want to be hypnotised or have an interest(like saying to yourself "i wonder what it would feel like to be hypnotised") but if they don't believe in hypnotism and think it is completely false then nothing will happen.

but i guess i will agree with you that if the person does agree, it is pretty amasing that the hypnotist does have very good powers of persuasion.

It does not serve anyone to use judgemental terms such as "infamous."

Normality is solely a matter of statistics.

Those things are not "looked down upon." Least not the last time I checked.

I lucid dream, always have, I have never been looked down upon for it. It is really just a dreaming and knowing your dreaming, its cool to experience, but I don't think its all that controversial.

Besides it doesn't effect other people, and its not like your claiming to fly, so I don't think people who don't lucid dream care about it very much, if at all.

It is interesting to lucid dream though...

Yeah, uh... try telling that to a cheerleader when she smiles at you in the hallway, huh?

P.S. Logically, one would say... look "up," but whatever...
