View Full Version : How Much Longer...

...before Christianity is considered to be myth in the U.S.A. and many other nations? I'm guessing about 100 years. How many more things does science have to prove to be false? I honestly don't see how an intelligent person can still believe a story written most likely by poets and obviously used to control, rape and enslave humanity to be true. The bible holds no truths that we can use to understand our world and reality itself, yet foolish, weak people still believe so strongly that these ancient fairy tales and dramatic stories are the true history of man.

In this day and age with all of the information we have, if you're christian, you're pretty goddamned stupid, and that's the only way to say it, sorry. So post with how many years you think it will be before little children are reading about how fucking brain-dead the majority of people were for hundreds and hundreds of years.

Why do you have to be so angry about it? http://www.totse.com/bbs/frown.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/frown.gif)

They aren't going down without a fight. Any science that calls their faith into question, they'll try and stop it. They did it with medical science and astronomy for over a thousand years. And they're doing it now with evolution and stem cell research. "That's ungodly. We're made in god's image. You can't play god. Blah blah blah..."

I think it's not a matter of time that will result in a "deconversion" of most of them, but a matter of science and the better transferring of information. Between 1999 and 2004, the number of Atheists/Agnostics in America increased about 12%, and the number of Protestants decreased about 10%. I imagine it will slowly continuing trend.

More likely than not, the fundamentalist religious will actually end up dying out, in a "natural selection" sort of way. Science will develop technology that will greatly increase the life expectancy of people. Cripples will be healed. Blind people will be made able to see. Those with amputations will have fully functional bionic arms. Through our knowledge we will become demigods, in our own right, and those who reject this new science will be prone to weakness, and die earlier than the rest of us that accept the fact that there is no divine being watching out for us, and we've got to do the best we can to make earth and our life the best we can make it.

I agree with everything you have said. Why take the word of 2000 year old people as truth? That's just as ignorant as saying the four elements are earth, wind, water, and fire. Thanks for actually making sense!

Christianity, Islam, Judaica. It gives people faith when they are troubled. It gives people hope when they are slashed down.

The placebo effect works in every case religion, and would work even if you prayed to goddamn space aliens, if you truly believe in their existence enough.

So, who cares?

Me, for one. A lot of people are/were killed in the name of God, and then these religious fanatics have no qualms about it, for praise the lord, God is on their side.

If we don't lose religion soon, it's going to destroy us. Man needs to bring his mind back to earth and realize all people are brothers and sisters.

I figure once enough time passes, science will replace religion throughout the world (if we survive that long), and it will open the minds of even the most extremist islamic man or the most devout christian.

I honestly belive that religion does nothing but tear us apart as a species, which is why I support the rapid spread of atheism in Europe, and America is next.

That's one thing that I hate the most when religious people do, when they pretend like being religious has no negative effect on anyone else's life. Religion is absolutely making the difference in whether gay marriage is legal or not at the moment, and religion is the reason why decent stem cell research is not funded in the United States. Thousands of people are dying every year, thousands upon thousands with diseases which could be treated with stem cells, and many more are suffering. Not even that but we can't even get stem cells from embryos being thrown away anyways. Try to tell my relatives who have died and are dying that your religion is having no effect on their lives.

I'm sorry that you've lost sight of the vision God placed in your heart. Hope deferred makes the heart sick. You we running the race so well, who therefore hindered you? This persuasion was not of God. Paul, said this. It is written, in the end times, there will be a falling away of the faith. It is written, He that endures to the end shall be saved. It is written, CAST NOT AWAY YOUR CONFIDENCE. It is written, Hold fast to your profession.

Were you a contender or a pretender?

I know you must not be too joyful now that you've turned away from God. God said Hebrews 11:6 If any many draws back, my soul takes NO PLEASURE IN HIM. You let go of the faith, but God loves you. There's hope yet. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, in the name of the Lord, Jesus Christ. So be it.

You can lay down, and be beaten, or get up, and run. The choice is yours to make. I love you. God loves you, and longs for you. He never stops calling out to you. You just stopped listening.

Therein lies the problem. We're at a stage of human development where we have the ability to wipe ourselves out completely; if the shit hits the fan the religious will destroy us all before allowing themselves to finally be beaten. If we're somehow lucky enough to survive that, they still won't go down without causing serious damage to our civilization.

This is all far off in the future. Right now, the religious have too tight a stranglehold on our world for them to begin to be that desperate. Every day though, we are making progress.

I don't believe in your god or any other, and I'm a very happy person with a bright future ahead of me. You are wrong.

Its pretty hard to tell with global communication being as it is. Religions will not die as easily as they did hundreds of years ago. I highly doubt any of the major religions will die out in the next hundred years but they will probably continue as they are gaining power in certain regions loosing it in others.

Considering most Christians in the developed world ignore the majority of the Bible now if the trend continues there may be many left in the next few centuries but if future Christianity will look any way like it does now I could not say.

I would say we need less organized religion--which DOES set people against each other--and more spirituality, which says that we are all one, and no nation or race is better than any other.

When one realizes that no one is better or worse than any other, there is no need to fear, hate or envy other people.

That's not "spirituality." That's "Not being a dick to others needlessly."

^ If you were to exclude every other aspect of spirituality yes. If you were to learn and have some experience, no.
