And presenting the story of my deconversion. I'm 1 atheist amongst about 800 Christian members. http://www.totse.com/bbs/biggrin.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/biggrin.gif) I have to say, it's been rather fun so far. I've been getting the typical "You're in denial/you were never a *true christian*/blah blah blah"
I did it because my younger sister reads the board and wanted me to share my views. I'm hoping that she'll see my massive pwnage of their arguments and she can be freed from religion as well.
Here's my main thread there: http://tinyurl.com/lbwed
Feel free to give it a skim and give any advice on what arguments to present. I just briefly went over the argument from evil last night. Most of what I've been getting grilled on is what I believed before deconverting. I think alot of them are hoping to find some fault in my christianity that led to my deconversion. Anyway, just thought I'd bring it here, see what any of the resident atheists have to say.
I saw that some of them were asking "How the Universe/Earth came to existence" and although you already gave them an answer, I think it's important to point out that even if there were absolutely no credible evidence on the origins of the Universe/Earth, saying "I don't know" is a much more intellectually honest response in that case than ignoring the importance of substantating evidence and simply uttering "God did it".
Anyways, you're doing fine. I don't think I would be able to remain as patient as you are in there; I have zero patience for the idiotic arguments that they are using.

Man, just reading the new replies and they are really, really, really stupid. Like Rust, if it was me, I'd of lost my rag long ago. I just can't believe there are people this stupid in the world.
edit - god damn, why can't I leave you, totse?

Good luck with that.

He could still present theories, pointing out that although "only" theories they hold more scientific weight than christian mysticism.

I know, I was saying that "even if there were absolutely no credible evidence..."; as in, even if we take their inevitable objections as valid, or even if there were not scientific theories to begin with, we could still say that.

Ahhh! I've been a member for less than 2 days and some guy bloody invites me to his house in Michigan. http://www.totse.com/bbs/eek.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/eek.gif)
He says he doesn't want to debate me online because it's too "impersonal". http://www.totse.com/bbs/eek.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/eek.gif)
He's probably got a pit in his living room and a bottle of lotion just for me.

Ok i read your post and only the first page. that last chick who said "god gave you a choice blah blah blah..." the thought of god holding a gun to my head suddenly comes to mind. "serve me or your going to a place full of torture, pain, and fire but dont worry, i love you very much."

Hey, Martini! http://www.totse.com/bbs/biggrin.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/biggrin.gif)
I think they're getting a bit suspicious of you. http://www.totse.com/bbs/eek.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/eek.gif)
From what I've read so far, these guys just sound like they're shit scared of being punished.
Whats this about? "you have a choice to serve God or Satan"
Who say's being an atheist means you're being evil?

These people don't know jack shit about evolution. At first I thought it was funny, but now it's just...sad.
For instance, in a recent post a guy said: "I find it interesting that you say crossbreeding generates diversity, while inbreeding does not. However, from what I have seen, it is generally accepted by evolutionists that mankind evolved from a single set of parents."
Where the fuck do they get this stuff from???

Yeah, besides the accuastion made by Israel Wayne, I've been getting emails from LincTheBestFriendGuy, where he makes believes he's actually interested in hearing about my experiences being homeschooled. His last email was, "How do you know HPirate?". I wonder if he came to the conclusion that I know you because we have similar views or because this thread is being read. I'm sure they have tracked down this thread due to the link in the OP.
You're doing a great job by the way. It really depresses me that in this information age that we live in, 16 year olds like LarryTheCow actually believe that the Earth is less than 10,000 years old.

Wow, I just read that post. The ignorance is killing me. I'll be addressing that post shortly.
I think I'm going to have to give up, bro. The vast amount ignorance melded with stubborness is going to make my head explode. I don't think I'm going to change any minds here, and I don't have the energy to continue with this. Good luck!
It would be nice if the rest of you homeschooled Totseans would jump in you know. http://www.totse.com/bbs/wink.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/wink.gif)

Same here. It's just...pointless. When I see people arguing that bouyancy created the geological time scale, I weep for humanity. http://www.totse.com/bbs/frown.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/frown.gif)
On top of that, my mother went to the site (as I said, I went there because my younger sis asked me to). Now she calls me up: "I can't believe you really believe all that. That's beyond apostacy. That's blasphemy! Don't you remember how we raised you?!"
Eesh... http://www.totse.com/bbs/rolleyes.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/rolleyes.gif)

Well, I'm really lazy... but you have inspired me, Martini. http://www.totse.com/bbs/biggrin.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/biggrin.gif) I might jump in after all.

I would but, I'd probably end up insulting all of them. I really have no patience for that bullshit.
Besides, they were already suspicious of you, that would only get worse if more atheists just happened to arrive out of nowhere.

You will only make them stronger.
Faith feeds off being "logically proved wrong".

I've read the entire thread (and the evolution branch off)over the past few days and I was just itching to jump on and correct their poor science. It shocks me, theres just so much they ignore so they can justify their point. (Most high school kids could refute their arguments)
But I wouldn't achieve anything.
Martini, I have to say you put up a good fight though.
