the pope recently quoted from a text written by the Byzantine emperor Manuel 2 which says that Islam is a religion which only preaches through sword.
isn't the pope acting like another religious preacher? or has he joined president bush's war on terror campaign?
what are your opinions?

The Pope's comments were much deeper than this or anything Bush has ever said. I believe he was speaking about the concept of logos vis-a-vis faith being something that must be chosen freely and not imposed on someone.

You mean like when muhammed said that there should be no coercion in religion?

Apparently Muslim terrorists didn't get the memo...or maybe they just don't consider killing any who don't believe a form of coercion. As far as most logical people are concerned, the Jizya, along with all other forms of restrictions upon Dhimmis throughout history, are coercion to convert, so forget the moral highground on that question entirely.
This is largely a theological question, so I'm sending this to My God.

What has clearly happened here, is the militant powers-that-be, who are pulling the strings behind the scenes of the radical Islamic militias, and giving the majority of peaceful Muslims a bad name, have seized upon statements made by His Holiness, and based in historical fact, and then taken them out of context, in order to attempt to facilitate more division and violence throughout the world. Note the comments by militants that the Vatican has now "joined with the Zionist-American alliance" etc. etc. His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI made the speech in the interests of opening dialogue between the two religions, and attempting to establish common ground/agreement between the leaders of the Islamic faith and the rest of the world, that acts of terrorism and violence are deplorable.

Fuck the Pope. When it takes your church over three hundred years to pardon Galileo, you aren't allowed to talk shit.

His Holiness?? wtf, are some nazi? first of all he openly criticized the islam religion and who are you to know what the pope intended? the only person who knows what the pope intended is the pope.
Secondly i hate fuckin radical people in relgion, like all those muslims who are offended. they need to fuckin get over it. i mean i could care less if the pope said all atheists are dumbasses for not believing in god. its all bullshit.
And lastly will this provoke more violence? because if it does then the radical islamic people will just be proving that statement correct which would be extremely stupid on their part.

I'm just about fapping to the idea the pope more or less delcared islam violent and they protested his claims by firebombing churches.
You really can't make that shit up. Not that the catholic church isn't full of shit too its just cute when the #1 source of terrorism in our age counter-claims itself non-violent and protests violently.

I rarely defend anything about the Catholic church, but, in this case, I have to say the pope is 100% correct. Listen to the words and you will find nothing to disagree with. Islam has brought a lot of evil into the world.

why do christians have a double standard, when christians commit atrocities like murdering six million they turn a blind eye or they act like they just forgot it.

i still belive that if the presiding pope of the nazi era could have told hitler to stop the bloddy war and killing of jews . i guess hitler would have only agreed as he was a devout catholic christian.
it is the church's hatred for the jews that was to be partially blamed for the attrocities of the nazi regime..
hitler through a lot of priests in the prisons along side the jews. He wasn't a devout catholic.

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached."
It isn't completely valid, but the fact that they're responding with violence just supports the claim.

In isolation it sounds like a stupid provocative thing to say, but what did he mean in the context of his speech?
It's doubtful the ones making death threats in response represent the muslim majority, 'christians' have a share of wackos in need of anger management tools as well.

Of course, and since the nutjobs are the loudest, they're the only people who are ever heard.
Why in the name of god do people still even listen to the man who wears the crown of the "pope". The leader of a corrupt organization which basicaly enslaved well over half of Europe and made war on the people of the Middle East for hundreds of years does not deserve one single person's attention. When are these fools going to wake the fuck up? I'm starting to get worried now that people have all of this information yet still cannot come to this logical conclusion on their own. The Vatican should have been burnt to the ground or turned into a museum a LOOOOOOOONG time ago.....it's amazing how brainwashed people can be.

The Inquisition has begun. Catholicism is a fast-growing religion nowadays, and the Pope knows they can't go running around butchering and totruting people. So he, along with other Catholic preists just make anti-Islamic speeches. They try to scare the world into hating Islam, and the reaction of ignorant Muslims is even worse. There shouldn't be any violent reaction, because they should know that the Pope is talking a bunch of bullshit.

The presiding Pope of the Nazi era DID do much to try and stop what was occurring, and spoke out much against it, actually. Hitler was not a Catholic. Catholic's were among those persecuted by Hitler's reign of terror (although, obviously, not as badly as the poor Jews.) There is a vein of thought around currently which is attacking the Church with basically the same accusations as you are, but they were shot down. I will find some links, and a couple book references that I can't remember off the top of my head.

Have you noticed that if someone critisises Islam, calling them violent or something. Alot of Muslims will step up and prove them right.

Only in the shitty 3rd world Muslim countries, where their leaders are US puppets and are against teaching Islam properly, and the Muslims are seriously ignorant. Coincidence?

I am curious about some of the comments here. What is wrong with a ctiticism of violence? Most of us agree things would be better without it. Why should the pope (or anyone) keep silent about the hatred and violence that is practiced on a daily basis by the muslims? The sooner we deal with them, the better.
