What are the similarities between the Christian creation theory and the Mayan creation theory. I know they're very similar. I was reading Genesis and there didn't seem to be any clear reasoning behind the creation of man and the Earth, whereas in Popol Vuh it sort of gives an explaination... the creators wanted to fill the emptiness. I dunno. It's kind of a weird question but I have my reasons.

Lol... this was an assignment we had to do the other day in my HIS101 class. All and all it wasn't very interesting. I was just looking for similarities that may have been a bit deeper than what the teacher was actually looking for, and what the majority of the class probably said. Seriously though, you guys might not know anything about the Popol Vuh, because I could see no real reason to. It's not very interesting and it's not very logical.

But I know there are plenty of Bible scholars here. Was there any type of explaination as to why God would feel inclined to create man and Earth?

^In the New Gospel, yes.

The Old Testament deity was rather arbitrary, to put it kindly.

It's a myth? It's designed to teach children something about which parents actually know very little?

Here in OZ some of us teach kids that bunyips(water monsters) exist to make toddlers think twice about getting too close to the water. A bedtime story - like santa claus, which has an exoteric meaning in which kids/believers hear of a kind old man, his reindeers, elves and similar fantastic things, and an esoteric message about giving and recieving, about love and appreciation, about life.

Kids can be so persistent? Gotta come up with a good story, they love it! Where is it apostle Paul criticises his followers for being like babies still needing to suck on the spiritual milk when he expected they would have moved on to meat?

Genesis has some great metaphorical language giving a very different message for those who seek truth. But some of it is very plain, like the 'god' who delivers the law on Sinai being an angel, and one wonders why those details are usually excluded.
