View Full Version : To the Satanists
With all respect, i ask that only Satanists reply in this thread.
Anyways, im confused with which view of Satanism to follow. I dont know if i should follow the Spiritual or the LaVeyan concept. What are your opinions on these two viewpoints? Can anyone clear it up for me? LaVeyan or Spiritual? Why?
Thanks guys.

Depends how "serious" you want to be. LaVey mostly meant it as a joke.
BTW, if you define "Satanist" as someone who 1) acknowledges the existence of Satan and 2)believes that he has many powers over us, then most Christians are Satanists.

Edit: I am reading up on the different sorts now.

I'd like to speak to a Satanist who is over the age of 21 and clearly not a dumbass.

Okay, I've read up on both of them. My conclusion? LaVeyan Satanism is total bullshit. Anton LaVey's life was basically one big lie, his "philosophy" is about as deep and revelatory as a four-year-old's, and the whole thing is pretty much just reactionary bullshit. From looking at the Church of Satan's site and tenets, I'd guess the majority of their members are 14 or so. http://www.totse.com/bbs/tongue.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/tongue.gif)
However, "spiritual" Satanism seems much more interesting to me. They certainly make much bigger promises. While I can't say I agree with all of their tenets, as they believe in a supernatural being and all, it seems to me to make much more sense in general. The tradition has much more history behind it, too. Here (http://www.angelfire.com/empire/serpentis666/) is a main site; this (http://www.angelfire.com/empire/serpentis666/SATANIC.html) and this (http://www.angelfire.com/empire/serpentis666/NEWPEOPLE.html) may be interesting. This (http://www.angelfire.com/empire/serpentis666/Yezidis.html) too.
However, I don't recommend following any Satanism. It's all bunk, in my opinion; I'm not infallible, of course, but I see no reason at all to believe any of these sects. Why not just believe what seems right to you? Use logic and science as your tools, not candles and mystical gibberish. http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif)

I like the one where they're all like, "OMG SATANSPAWN BEASTCHILD666!!!! HAHAHA!!!!"

Actually, if you're going to be a Satanist, I might recommend the Temple of Set. (http://www.xeper.org/pub/gil/xp_FS_gil.htm) They seem more logical and professional than the others. I haven't read deeply into their beliefs yet, but from what I've seen it's interesting.
Edit: Never mind! It's Satanic Scientology. "Pay us and we'll teach you."

how did i know someone would cite the JOS website as a good source? don't get me wrong, it is. but, its overused in most things. and no, i don't have an alternative. if you join with them, don't get too attatched to most of the ministry besides maxine(sp). a few have switched religions completely if not going to other organizations.
thanks for the opinions guys! =D
Joy of Satan? If I'm not mistaken, there was a weird thing with them a while ago where they were outed as a cult of some sort with Maxine using membership funds instead of a job for money.
For spiritual/theistic Satanism, I recommend to you the following sources:
Theistic Satanism and Magick: http://tinyurl.com/gz77n
Theistic Satanism: http://tinyurl.com/h8fhe
The occult forums Satanism section (Has several pinned topics which may be of value to you) :
http://tinyurl.com/h4r5z
These are my three recommended. They should be of use to you, if not they will lead to sites and forums where you can learn more. You may also want to Wiki "Satanism" and "Theistic Satanism"
I noticed that in JoS, these people have actually spoke with Satan? I started with LaVeyan, and these LaVeyans say that it's bullshit. They say that people that have said that they actually have spoken to some divine being or deity is just a scam so that they can just get people to follow. I dont know. Im really confused..Dunno wich one to follow despite these nice opinions you guys gave me.. Alright, people might just say that i should forget about Satanism, but personally, i feel that it's for me. Some people may say that im stupid then to follow but its my opinion that counts right? I just hope some of you can respect that if ever you think of telling me that im stupid and shit.

The practice of ancient satanism was a by-product of various other religions. Modern satanism - however (which is what you're thinking of) - was the creation of Anton LaVey. Don't be fooled into anything otherwise. Therefore, to be an actual Satanist you claiming to follow the teachings of LaVey. Frankly, I've read the Satanic Bible and I'd say there's about as much good stuff in there as there is in any other bible. So, don't let that it's a man-made religion deter you.
On the contrary - All Religion Is Man Made.

Well, the LaVeyans aren't necessarily right or trustworthy. Couldn't hurt to try, eh (or could it)?
Edit: Lost, Crowley pre-dated LaVey by a couple decades, I think. Maybe not even that much, but either way, not every modern Satanic tradition is LaVeyan. This, however:

is incredibly true, in my humble opinion. http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif)
Edit: Actually, I think Catholicism is cooler than Satanism... http://www.totse.com/bbs/biggrin.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/biggrin.gif) Ancient rituals and neat robes, hell yeah!

Yea, but Crowley wasn't a Satanist. There have been a lot of so-called prophets who have supposedly been medium to Satan, but they weren't all Satanists.

Satanism is not ideology nor religion. Satanism is the way of living. Don't look at what others have to offer, look inside yourself for what do you want, need and then start searching for it. If you don't know - wait, Satan is not going anywhere. There are as many sorts of satanism as many satanists are out there. There is no one answer to which sort of satanism is right. Be yourself and don't follow others thoughtlessly.

Can i actually mix the beliefs? Or make a kind of my own? How 'bout i mix LaVeyan and Traditional? Would that work?

First learn what satanism is and then ask yourself what do you want to do with this. And you can do whatever you want and will, but remember: stupidity is the cardinal sin of satanism.
alright im being enlightened more and more... thanks to all of you guys..really appreciated it!

It would work about as well as mixing Kool-aid with motor oil.
The results would be about as attractive.

Of course LaVeyans would say thats bullshit. LaVeyans dont believe that Satan is an actual being, they believe that Satanism represents evil and is a way of life.
quote:They say that people that have said that they actually have spoken to some divine being or deity is just a scam so that they can just get people to follow.
It seems like LaVeyan "satanism" is more of a scam considering they ask for a $200 membership fee.

Good, if thats the case than it most likely is http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif)

Yes.
I hope that helped!
EDIT: And as far as "JoS being debunked" goes, people have been "debunking" it for a while, using only false books (ie the bible) as thier basis for argument.
