I'm an agnostic that believes none of the religions are true, but I've been wondering if there is a God. This is not an argument about afterlife, merely the existence of a God. Can you define what you believe god to be, if you think you know what it is, and why you believe in it or, if you don't believe in a god, explain why.
Thanks,

I believe in the existence of an energy, which runs through all things in this universe, both animate and inanimate. This energy takes different forms, and when something dies, that energy is transferred to the surroundings, and re-cycled, in a way.
This energy exists in several dimensions, or planes of reality, and what may be witnessed as being one thing, in our eyes, can have many different forms, on other dimensions. In my opinion, this is what had given birth to the idea of an after-life: the idea that after death, the many various forms of that persons energy, are re-distributed into the environment, on different `dimensions`, or planes of existence. I only bring up this dimension crap because I do not want to dismiss the idea of astral projection, and other out-of-body experiences, which do take place on a regular basis, in people`s lives.
As for after-life, from my perspective... i think our perception of reality, after death, will be completley different, as we will have different means of viewing our surroundings. Therefore we cannot say for certain what it will be like. We can only make similarities for it, based on what we have seen during our lives.
Thats why I dont believe that `heaven` or `hell` will turn out to be as they have been portrayed to us, by christianity.... if they turn out, at all. Upon death, our instruments of perception will be too different, if we will have any, at all.
Besides, there is a bunch of stuff that puts me off, regarding the heaven and hell idea... Youre told if you behave like a good little boy for all your life, then in heaven you will get rivers of honey, virgins, and all the other wonders of life... for all eternity. But think about it.. why does your soul need to reproduce? or, why does it need nutrition from honey?
Also, there is this little thing that I keep thinking about.. ALright, so lets say you do get all the wonders of life for all eternity....... then what? what do you do for all eternity? wouldnt it get a little bit boring, eating the same delicious honey, and banging the same virgins every day?
Imagine you start eating ice cream everyday, for the next 6 months. after 6 months, that ice cream does not taste nearly as good, and you probably never want to see the sight of ice cream again. its the same thing with heaven: just how long are you going to enjoy that virgin and honey crap for?
The only `God`-like.. thing.. in my opinion is the subconscious mind of humanity, which constantly taps into the greater levels of energy, roaming through the universe. The only `God` is our mind. Our own self. And interstingley enough, that is the belief held by Satanism: that the only thing we should be concerned about, is our own self. That we should not blindly bow down to anybody else but ourself, and not seek blessings of some possible greater being, who has yet to show himself, and his grandiouse miracles.
But thats just my view, and since im only 18, those views will have a lot of time to change and grow. So maybe if you ask me about this next year, I would have said something completley different. And if you asked me about it 2 years ago, I would say `yeah theres a god somewhere out there. i mean, there has to be. were too weak to rely on ourself, so we have to look up to something else, which has the miraculous power to change everything`.

i wrote a thread about what i thought god was once, and no one really cared. And thus started the downward spiral of my reputation in this forum...

god is just a personification of reality

Well, I think it's impossible to know if there is or is not a God, but I think it is possible to prove all religions fake and quite easily so.

I'm a pure scientist. I cannot say 100% that there is no God, but the evidence we have currently means that such a being could not exist within the laws of physics or even logic at the moment.

Agreed (I think).
I'm still not exactly sure what that definition of agnostc entails. I assume that the definition you're going by is the one that defines an agnostic as one who beleives that the existence of God is unknowable.
By this definition, aren't many theists agnostic too? Also, is the definition talking about what agnostics believe is unknowable now or will ever be known?
I'm an atheist by definition, but I'm not sure if I'm agnostic also, because I'm not sure of what the answer to my above question is.

I'm pretty much with quill here, except that I would add "intelligence" and "love" to the force part.
I refer to the whole thing as God as a sort of verbal shorthand--I do not wish to imply I think there is some gaseous invertebrate with a long white beard sitting on a cloud somewhere.
