I live in a small midwestern town. I notice that most if not all of the poorer churches paint over, cover or are mostly with out windows. And most of the larger wealthier churches both in my town and around the world have stain glass windows that stop most of the light.

What is the reason is for this? Does direct sunlight interfere with the jesusifcation process?

it's so people can't see the priests molesting little boys. duh.

In many churches the stained glass usually depicts a religious icon.

The poor churches cover windows because they are either broken or not broken and they want them to stay that way. Stained glass is ment to be enjoyed from the inside. It makes it darker but looks really good when lit from behind.

This reminds of the people who have those annoying front covers or bumper covers for their cars. they say its just so the car stays clean but whats the point of having a clean car if your not going to show it off?? but to answer the OPs question its probably so that a person will actually have to go inside the church to see whats happening, that way when you came in it would be extremely awkward for you to leave. so in other words ITS A TRAP DONT FALL FOR IT!!

Are the poor and rich churches the same denomination?

Stained glass windows are kind of hallucinogenic. Do some research, see what Aldous Huxlet had to say on that. (Source--his "Collected Essays.")

In my area, it seems mostly the Jehova's Witnesses have their church's [or 'Kingdom Hall's'] windows boarded up or covered in some way to avoid vandalism. My aunt's church had their windows smashed in so many times eventually they just boarded everything up to try and avoid the problem altogether.
