All of them have their good bad and ugly,
http://www.totse.com/bbs/Forum15/HTML/005901.html is my opinion on organized religion.
It encompasses most of my ideals.
However, I think one point that I cannot stress enough is the narrow-mindedness of 99% of all religions.
Someone said it towards the end of my thread, can't remember who (obviously I'm also too lazy to go look), but they were right about religions repressing those who didn't believe in "the right" religion, and being generally really shitty: hypocrisy, corruption, pedophilia(kekelol)..
On the other hand, there are some good things that have come from religion, I know some people personally that were pretty much better off dying but found some solace in religion.

Bad/Ugly-Prudery, People giving all their money to the Catholic Church which has a LOT of wealth, but does it give some of that wealth, war, slavery, stealing land, ("cause God said I could).
Good-possibly helped with freeing people (well, those who won't made slaves)...eh

the BBC showed a documentary in which they claimed that The Pope played a leading role in a systematic cover up of the child sex abuse by romn catholic priests..
the documentry showed that a document signed by the cardinal Thomas Ratzinger which states the rather than reporting sexual abuse to the relevant legal authorities the bishops should encourage the victims ,witness to not to talk about it.
the pope is definitely setting a bad example for the Vatician ..his remarks have irked the muslim community. i guess the pope is the ugly face of religion.....

“Religion” .. that word has many meanings. “Religion” can mean the intuitional sense of something greater, a higher power, or state of being, and the search for the truth about that. However mostly it is used to describe systems where theology, doctrine and dogma are used in human attempts to give form to the formless, “to ascribe personality, qualities, and characteristics to it”. ‘Religious’ theories abound regarding ‘God’s’ “affairs, will, desires, plans, and designs, and their assumption of the office of ‘middle-men’ between ‘God’ and the people.”(The Kybalion) You don’t have to look far to see religions teaching that sinful humanity can only receive absolution if a confessor/priest of that religion mediates between the sinner and god. In this model of religion the sinner is taught division between humanity and divinity, a division so great it may only be bridged by an intercessor. The teaching strikes at the heart of every human as it uses law/doctrine to ‘convict’ the human of ‘sin’, of original sin in which our situation is helpless. The ‘religious’ god won’t even talk to us, that’s how pissed off he is, so only thru the superior powers of the priest may the sinner hope to defray the righteous anger of deity. Some ‘religions’ are blatant with the fear tactics, others are subtle, do they know what they are doing?
Buddha sat under a tree and gained enlightenment, why not all other humans? Why is it many of those who now call themselves Buddhists, actually teach and encourage worship of gods? Why do they have traditions and rituals in which the priest/monk is also the mediator between the needy sinner and the angry diety? What is the need for hierarchy and bureaucracy? Why interpose an intercessor between divinity and humanity? Is it so the minds of the followers are thus blinded to any truth beyond the illusions of certainty and security asserted upon them by theology and dogma of their religion? Religions that appear to be no more than self serving systems parasitically draining the life of humanity, masquerading as righteous icons, they are known by their karma written large in the pages of history.
Is it time humanity resolved to transcend the petty ‘religious’ images of god? How much of life is ultimately unknowable and indefinable? What can be known, may best be known thru one’s mind without an intercessory authority/church/priest and the illusions of duality that seem fostered mainly to milk the herd?

religion is good because(most) religions teach to be good and kind to other people. Unfortunately religions also preach that they are the only correct religion, that is bad as well, hmm, there is no such thing as god so its stupid to preach that you are right.
The ugly is when people take the fact that their religion is the right one and start holy wars over it. The ugly is when a religion gets so large it gets corrupt, bringing about things like paedophilia etc.
the good, the bad and the ugly are all just what people make of their religion
