View Full Version : What do we die for?

As our society goes on, the word sacred blemishes and fades. Once sacred things are now stripped of their old importance. I was pondering religion, as I often do, and I came upon a question.

What in our society is sacred? What around us is something we would die for?

My first thought is that we would die for our children. But after reading all of the archives on the recent amount of child abuse I am even beginning to discredit that idea. I used to think that a parent could never kill their child. I have been proved wrong so many times I am starting to think that is the norm.

My second thought was perhaps lovers. Wouldn't you die for the one you love? Then I remembered that people don't last long together, and that love is a temporary and fragile thing. So maybe, for a little while, but that willingness to sacrifice your own life for the one you love fades sooner or later. So I go on.

Does anyone have any ideas? Because if we care nothing for anything but ourselves, then we as a species have sunk deeper than I thought. Well, your opinion counts.

I accept the notion as espoused in the New Gospel, that our free will is absolute, even to the point of death. We all "die" when we choose to, which is when we no longer have anything to accomplish to fulfill our soul's agenda. With one exception--euthenasia--when one's physical body is experiencing intractable pain and indignity, then ending one's life on the physical plane seems only reasonable. In my reality, "death" is the ultimate act of creation--it is not an ending, but a change.

In the past, however, I have risked my own life to help my sweety, who I love dearly and to whom I owe much. If I had time to think about it, I probably would not sacrifice myself for anything, but in the heat of the moment, I would most likely risk my life to save a family member.

As the moss creeps,

And time crawls,

One thing remains sacred to everybody,

Life,

I live to die,

And die to live.

Kind of like the military, They die to protect us and our freedom. They die for our first right since the moment we have been born, life.

We die so we live to fight another day.
