No, it's based on the fact that Martin Luther disagreed with many Catholic practices of his time, such as indulgences.
Catholics defend their religion by saying it is the only Christian religion that can be traced straight to Jesus; it was not created or influenced by man but by God. This belief ignores the Councils of Nicea and Trent, as well as Vatican I and II.
