After being forced to attend katekisme until I made my confirmation, I decided religon was not for me. I couldnt stand all the bullshit catholics believe in. Since then I have considered myself an atheist, and this may sound like a dumb question but, am I really atheist if I have already "confirmed to the church"? To be fully atheist would I have to do somthing to renounce myself from my former relgion?

Atheism is not a religion. It's simply the lack of belief in God/Gods. If you don't believe in God, you're an atheist. it's that simple.

If your asking, does Atheism have a ceremony to be one,the answer is no.

You have to write the pope and tell him to cram catholicism up his ass.

No, but you might want to go and do some reading before you make your conclusion. Becoming an atheist just because you don't like Catholic dogma isn't any better than becoming a Protestant because you don't like Catholic dogma; get familiar with arguments that atheists have on your side, and make a really intelligent decision.

*sigh* No I'm not asking to join a "Church of Atheism". I want to know if deciding I don't want to be catholic is all I need.

I have done this. In fact I've done a lot of reading on different religons. This is an educated decision.

It seems to me you're having difficulty understanding what "atheism" is. It's not that your for or against any religion, but you have no belief in any gods.

You better get your religion papers, so you have legal certificates of becoming an atheist. those people who work for the religion police are dicks.

I thought this forum was filled with intellectuals and helpful people. I guess I was thinking of humanities...

The answer is 'no'; you don't have to do anything. As an atheist, you simply don't have a belief in God, and you don't believe that ceremonies or catechism changes who you are in any way.

Whether or not the Church still considers you a member, should not be of any concern to you.

You're an atheist. Rejoice in rational thinking in all its glory! Hallelujah!

It doesn't matter if you are Catholic or not. All that is required to be atheist is the lack of belief in a God/gods.Renouncing your religion is not a factor . If you don't believe, you don't believe.
