ok, so this guy who goes to my school (he is way to christan) starts to aregue with me about me being athiest and he says:

"well athiests believe in nothing"

me:

"duh, thats what its all about"

him:

"therefore you dont believe that earth exists, nor any other thing"

he then ignored all of my objections and corrections and walked off.

is there any explaination?

Atheists believe in lots of things, just not gods.

I seriously suggest you do some reading on atheism from reputable resources, Mouser. Put simply, atheism is the lack of belief in a god or gods; keep that in mind when some religionist tries to debate you.

Secondly, religionists cannot be reasoned with the vast majority of the time. Sadly, the only thing they seem capable of understanding is excessive violence. Unfortunately you'd probably be outnumbered... just tell him he's an ignorant twat and ignore his dumb ass.

Yeah. It's that he is a moron who does not know what he is talking about; as others have said, NIHILISTS believe in absolutely nothing. Though there is no concrete definition most atheists lack belief in a deity.



I know the reason that some Christians believe atheists believe in absolutely nothing is because they often get into a religious discussion with an atheist...

"So you don't believe in God?" ...

"Nope, I don't believe in any of that."

In their simplified, black-and-white minds, this means that atheists are simply too lazy and/or afraid to claim ANYTHING so they come to incorrect conclusions and "debunk" atheism with half-assed arguments like that. Try to enlighted him. If all else fails, ignore him.

That reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Apu was being pinched or by Flanders in Homer's car and every time Flanders does that he says, "Where your gods now?"

I always wondered why Apu didn't cold cock Flanders saying, "Where is your god now?"

Often I start a theological discussion by exclaiming, "God hates you." The ignorant Christian sheep often replies "he hates you more" or even the occasional "no, he hates you and loves me."

I then explain to them, that in the Christian religion God cannot hate. He can be spiteful or vengeful but he cannot hate- for he is all forgiving.

There are several ways to go from this point.

You can innocently feel around them or go straight to their heart.

Do you think it’s a coincidence that you’re Christian too, or do you believe it to be part of His divine will?

You do realize that if your parents were Jews, you'd be worshiping god with the aid of the torah instead of the bible?

Often I never have to go much farther than that because many of my peers that I talk with hold this silly notion of a being who dwells in the sky, yet can't defend their beliefs any better than a paraplegic gladiator.

There's a difference betwenn believing and know. We know that the world exists, we don't have to believe it exists.
